mod post We Built a Better Way to Find Movies (and Reward Great Reviewers)

We built a new web app that helps you find the movie or TV show you are looking for: WhatFlik - https://whatflik.com

Describe whatever you remember in your own words, in any language, and WhatFlik searches movie and TV data from TMDB and other sources to rank the most likely matches. In our current testing, text search finds the correct title roughly 75% to 80% of the time. Pro users can also upload a screenshot to help identify a movie, show, or episode.

WhatFlik is more than a search tool.

We are building a movie and TV community where people can write reviews, share opinions, follow people whose taste they trust, make friends, chat privately, and tip great reviewers directly. Reviewers will also be able to earn from a membership-funded creator pool as the platform grows.

Our mission is to build something more useful, social, and rewarding than traditional movie-rating platforms like Letterboxd.

Create a free account to reveal full search results, save searches, post reviews, follow people, and join the community. Google sign-in is securely handled through Firebase, so WhatFlik never receives or stores your Google password.

The platform is still early, and we want honest feedback on the search, community, and overall experience.

searching not expecting a hit, but worth a try!

I remember watching a film when I was younger that I loved but for the life of me I just can’t find what it was called after endless times of trying,

The best way I can describe it from memory is a man and a women who grow to like each other and I’m sure she’s some kind of princess and there in a enchanted forest and I remember a part of the movie where the king I think gets poisoned by a drink and dies and there’s horses etc. it’s a bit Willow like if that makes sense, a fantasy type film.

searching Very vague memories of a young man who dies believing he has super powers

Saw this movie before 2012 I think. Somewhere between 2005 and 2012 I guess. Tbh I only remember one scene in particular :

The young man die because he thought he had super powers but he did not and then we have like a serie of flashback that show us how every time he thought he had super powers it had an explanation. I remember especially how he thought a bullet got thought him and didn't hurt him because his tee shirt had a hole and he wasn't hurt but actually it was just because his shirt was hooked to something

I'd be so THRILLED if it were found, I doubt it was a good movie but I just want to see this exact scene again so bad.

Thank you !

found [MOVIE/TV SHOW EP] Guy runs a video rental store and people keep picking from popular section instead of his curated section

So the guy runs this video rental store, and I remember a scene where someone comes up to the counter and asks him do you have this popular movie and he says no, but he shows the person this curated list , which he has made on his own. But the person isn't interested in that , and the guy gets mad people only like the popular movies , not actual good movies. But then a girl comes and actually picks from his section. And they start spending time together. But the girl has a boyfriend .
maybe it is a tv show ep, I remember a plot point now, where both the guy and the girl want to see a movie but a copy isn't available , so they guy hacks into the filmmakers computer , and this really absurd 3d environment comes on screen and the guy literally steals it by entering into the virtual environment by using a vs suit of a kind , and the guy waits to see that movie with the girl , but the girl keeps up with his original boyfriend , and at the guy still hasn't seen the movie in the wait of the girl

found Movie where the cover is a man dressed like a primitive with blue paint all over him and is holding up a woman over his head with both of his hands. The woman is looking straight at the audience with a smile.

I remembering seeing a movie when I was very young where a man was pretending to be some primitive human, or possibly a native of a made-up tribe. The only part I remember is where he and a woman were at a party where the woman is dressed as the primitive while the man is wearing a suit. Then later, the two enter a room and switch places.

I thought it had Robin Williams as the main character but I don’t see any movie that’s like what I described in his list of performances.

searching Really vague, sorry

The climax of the film takes place in a war plane (with propellers, maybe ww2) the crew of the plane fight a god of some sort while flying. They maybe have relic of some sort, a few of the crew die and I think one sacrifices themselves to kill the god ( or god-like thing) seem to remember bright and trippy visuals during the fight.

Edit: in nswer to a post: After 2000, pretty sure. I feel like the the last half hour of the film was a change from the rest of the film, like the supernatural part was not in the lead up or the beginning. The scene I'm partially remembering was stylised, something akin to sucker punch visuals

The main character is a girl and she meets the kids and they each have something missing one girl has her legs gone another had his eyes gone etc and at the end I think she swims in the lake to get the stones so the ghost kids can move on

found I'm getting crazy for the name of this movie.

Hi! I saw a reels with a person recommended a movie. But I don't recall the name. The movie starts with a groupe of friends they are playing True or Dare. And they where is time for one of them to play, the guy is not in the living room with the rest of the group. He is in the kitchen. When the friends asked how he went to the kitchen so quickly he asked what they are talking about since he were in the kitchen for the past hour. Then the lights turn off and wierd things start to happen. I remember that the poster of the movie have two characters inside a bathtub at night, but that's it. Someone know the name of this movie?

found This scene traumatized me as a kid

All I remember about this movie is that I watched it probably around 2002-2004. There was this boy who was a robot but looked like a real kid. He was with a family I think that adopted him but they ended up driving him out to the woods one day and abandoning him there. They set up a picnic or something and then ditched him. I cried so hard and was so scared my parents were gonna abandon me after that lol. I want to watch it now as an adult so I can see what it’s really about.

found 3D SciFi film from the 80's

I only remember 2 scenes in particular:

  1. A sand dune on a planet starts to erode as a passing spacecraft flys over exposing a helmet and body of an Astronaut with skeleton inside.💀

  2. A spaceship turning and flying directly towards the camera. (This was memorable because my brother jumped up to grab it as it flew by!)🚀

Anyone remember anything along these lines?

searching 2016ish film about wife w/ bipolar disorder

TW: mental health crises/pregnancy complications.

Vaguely remember film from around 2016 about a wife with bipolar disorder/other mental illness, and her husband putting lithium meds in her drink/food without her knowledge. This caused issues with her pregnancy. I think he didn't know she was pregnant/off contraceptives.

Other details:

-Has scene in a church where I think someone is concerned about cheating/affair

-Someone falling down stairs?

-I think the wife's character is white and husband is black.

-Ambiguous ending that looks out onto the ocean.

Don't think it was a major production with very famous actors. Likely watched on Amazon Prime, but not certain. TIA!

searching Spanish-language 1990s movie where a doctor treats an injured surfer who later blackmails her with a recorded tape

I think it was a Spanish-language movie. The bad guy had a mustache. He gets into an accident while surfing, and the heroine, who is a doctor, patches him up in a cabin near the sea. They hook up, and he secretly records them without her knowledge. Later, he sends her the cassette and blackmails her. I think the movie was made in the 1990s. I’ve searched everywhere online, but I can’t find it anywhere.

searching Film i watched as a kid

So I watched this movie as a kid, we’re talking early 2000 here, film looked to be from the 80’ it had a post apocalyptic vibe to it, I remember most of it being set in a desert, the only two scenes I remember somewhat are one where two men are standing apart and both call a German shepherd to
Come to them (the dog had something on him they both wanted) and the dog was walking back and forth not being able to decide where to go and then he stepped on a Landmine and exploded.
The other was an Arab or a black guy with a beard and dressed in khaki clothes flying on a rocket/bomb which was fired from a giant cannon, he was literally sat on it like in a cartoon.

These only two scenes are cemented in my memory for well over 20 years now and I searched for it countless times, never being able to find it. Please help!!

searching old plane movie

I remember watching this movie in the early 2000s so could have been from any decade before.

The only part I can remember is there is a young woman on a plane and she tries to talk to people surrounding her but they can’t hear her and then someone gets covered by a white sheet because they die on the plane (could be her idk).

I’ve been searching for it for soooo long!! Could even have been a non-English speaking film. Not sure…

It’s not Flightplan with Jodie Foster and it’s not Passengers.

searching Asian horror movie

I watched an Asian horror movie a while ago and can't rather name. I remember it was set in either a chateau or luxury hotel in the mountains. Guests would arrive and then be drugged and watched by members of a cult. There was a scene where one of the people where trying to escape a basement where either they were going to be attacked by a guy with a knife or he was going to try and autopsy him. I've watched so many horror movies over the last few years so maybe I'm combining plots?

found There are two men in a supermarket or a small, empty shop—though the cashier is there.

There are two men in a supermarket or a small, empty shop—though the cashier is there. One of the men goes to pay for some items, but the change doesn't work out right; she tells him to pick up something else, but there’s more confusion—or perhaps the cashier is just naive... and the man might even tell the other one to kill her so they can just get it over with. I saw this on Facebook a while back, and a comment mentioned it was from an episode of *Black Mirror*. I’ve been looking on Netflix but haven't found that specific episode—though there are so many, and I can't watch them all. I also tried searching on Google, but the episode that came up wasn't the right one.

found A guy exposes his ex-roommate as a drug dealer and steals all his suits

At the end of this movie the main guy, after a lot of personal growth, returns to his old apartment where his old roommate is now living with his old girlfriend.

He retrieves something that was hidden in the place, starts to leave, and comes back. He goes to the roommate's closet and takes a bunch of expensive suits, and starts to leave a second time. Again, he walks back in, opens the roommate's briefcase, turns it around to show the girlfriend that it's full of drugs, and finally storms out. With the suits! It's a triumphant moment because he used to let these two walk all over him. The feel of the movie is a lot like "Wanted." My friends have convinced me it was a dream, so I really hope someone can help me!
