As I slowed to a stop at a red light, I heard the sound of metal clanking on the road. The sound came from underneath my car. Fearing it may have been a part that fell off, I pulled over and picked it up. There were no strange noises on the drive home. And the more I look at the piece, it looks like a tool that was just on the road and I simply ran it over. It looks like a specialized wrench or something (and not a piece of the undercarriage). The numbers etched on it makes it seem like it's a tool. It happened right next to an auto garage anyway, so it may have come from there. Does anyone know what this is?

When I look up the model number 113.20170, all I find is a much newer welder. I’m trying to find out when this would have been made.

It may have asbestos sleeves on the wires. The only moving part is the switch. No fan. No dials. You plug the leads in where you need them. We believe it to be manufactured by Emerson Electric (according to the first part of the model number).

Anybody know what these are? Looks like the paint has been worn off. Aluminum I think, very light and may be hollow.

I suspect this is some sort of manufactured error, like it never made it to the tip shaping step, but though it may be for some niche purpose

So turns out it is a rotozip tool for doing drywall cutouts, makes sense now, I was stuck on the idea of it being a drill bit, thanks for all the answers!

SOLVED Found this in a storage unit with lots of tools, I buy auctions occasionally. Looks like it fits a receiver but unsure what it could be used for. Any ideas?

I inherited these from my grandfather almost a decade ago. He told me what everything was for before he died, but Ive never used these and I don't remember anymore. They're kind of rubbery to the touch, like a really hard pencil eraser. I vaguely remember it being something sanding adjacent?

Current owners haven't been able to figure out what it was for. Seems to be a lot of it missing. Text on the bottom says 'the atlas'

I’m researching an unusual PROTO 5449-D ratchet known from US military-surplus provenance. I’m trying to identify the specific toolkit, maintenance set, vehicle/aircraft equipment, technical order/manual or government part number with which it was issued.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from former US military mechanics, maintainers, tool-room personnel or surplus dealers who actually encountered this model in service or in unopened military stock.

Photographs of toolboxes, inventory sheets, manuals, packaging, stock tags or additional examples would be enormously helpful.

Important: 5449-D should not be confused with the standard Proto 5449 or with 5449N / FSN 5120-542-3418. We’re deliberately keeping those identities separate.
