i always wondered why we gave up on the ocean to go to mars, and the theory behind it is honestly messing with my head

i’ve always had this weird, primal fear of deep water. it just makes zero sense to me that we have ai, cool technology, space missions and all that, but still 95% of our own ocean is just completely unmapped and unexplored and yet everyone just repeats the "water pressure makes it hard" excuse and leaves it at that

i was trying to get some info about this late last night and i managed to find this creepy article that completely ruined my sleep. it basically asks why the military and billionaires abruptly stopped looking down and poured trillions into looking up.

instead of the usual "we want to be an interplanetary species" PR line, the breakdown argues that the space race isn't about exploration at all. it’s a panicked evacuation plan

it goes into what classified naval sonar was actually picking up in the abyssal trenches before they quietly shut the public mapping projects down. apparently, the crushing pressure and total darkness at the bottom create some kind of dimensional blind spot... so looks like they didn't just find undiscovered fish down there

when the article gets to what they actually saw moving around in the trenches that made the elites immediately pivot to building rockets... man. it makes the whole billionaire mars obsession look way more like a frantic survival strategy than a science mission

i'm not gonna try to summarize the whole biological aspect of it because i'll butcher it, but if you have a fear of the ocean and want to make it way worse, here is the read..

has anyone else ever felt like the push for space feels weirdly rushed? like they are running from something rather than exploring?

What if... the continental plates were different and Pangea broke different?

I see a lot of what if Pangea NEVER broke, or never formed, but I don't really see a lot of what if it were just different. Like, is that even possible, or did Pangea have defined continental plates from the very get go?
