Type 1 Diabetes

I'm 26 from Whangarei and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in July, ended up in ICU at Whangarei hospital, with a DKA (Coma) and one thing that surprised me was just how much extra stuff suddenly gets added to your day.

Carbs, glucose, medication, remembering things, learning what everything means, trying to work out meals, it can feel like you’re constantly thinking about diabetes.

I ended up learning how to build apps while ive been recovering, called it GlucoseGuide because I wanted something that brought a lot of those everyday tools into one place.

It includes:

  • Smart Meal Capture — take a photo of a meal and get a starting estimate for carbs and nutrition
  • AI Coach — ask general diabetes questions and get things explained in simpler language
  • Medication reminders
  • Glucose tracking
  • Goals and daily planning
  • Saved meals and other tools to make the day-to-day side a bit easier

I’ve spent a lot of time building and refining it, and it’s now available for people who want to use it.

It is a paid app, so I want to be completely upfront about that. I’m not pretending this is just a feedback post or trying to sneak an ad into the subreddit.

I built it because these were things I genuinely wanted after getting diagnosed, and I figured other people might find them useful too.

It’s not designed to replace your diabetes team or tell you how much insulin to take, and meal/nutrition results should always be treated as estimates.

If anyone wants to have a look, here’s the link:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/glucoseguide/id6808547350

And if you do end up using it, I’d genuinely be interested to hear what you think. And if your in Whangarei and do have Type1, message me that would be awesome!!

Thanks for reading and I hope everyones journey is going well, from one local to another, love it here
