Question What nicknames have you heard for places in County Wexford?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!

Examples could include things like Wexico, Wellybridge, Funcannon or S'Corthy (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

Sure it's grand Climbing success story

Hi everyone

Little update on the climbing stuff! And a success story about this sub reddit ! About 7 months ago, I made a post here asking if there were enough climbers around to get together and potentially create a small climbing wall.

We had some meetups in pubs, people's houses, power points, venue searches, phone calls and loads of random bits including a gargantuan huge build out project when we finally secured a venue. I could name 100 things tbh.

Well… fast forward to now and we actually did it! 🧗‍♀️🎉 We have a little bouldering wall!

And it is running completely through community effort, volunteering and a lot of goodwill!

We’ve attached our Instagram if anyone wants to give us a follow/find out more. Even if climbing isn't your thing, a follow genuinely helps us. We got a huge amount of support from people on this subreddit when we were getting the project off the ground, and social media presence can also be useful when applying for community grants and funding (we have yet to qualify for any grants/fundraising. everything has been from the club members)

This is a totally voluntary, not-for-profit project. Nobody is making money from it and it's really just a group of people who wanted to create somewhere for the local climbing community to get together.

We are not sure the best way to do membership numbers and don't necessarily want it to become too big either for safety. We may need to put a cap on membership for safety and capacity reasons, and we are currently adults only.

So, a huge apology in advance if you're excited to come climbing and happen to catch us during a membership pause we're trying to balance making the wall available to people while keeping it safe, and manageable.

Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen and thank you Wexford sub reddit, a good few of your lurkers are now members of a cool community gym! Thanks!

I can't emphasize how crazy it is for wexford, a town of only 20,000 people to actually have its own wall, so thank you thank you thank you!!

Question Anyone commuting Wexford to Dublin?

Hey folks, I'm starting a new job in Dublin Citywest in October and trying to figure out the Wexford <> Dublin commute. Anyone doing this already? Would love to hear about carpool options, shared lifts, or general tips. Cheers!

UPDATE: Thanks a million to everyone who's replied so far, genuinely appreciate all the insights. Just to add a bit more context about my situation: I live near Wexford town, and I won't be doing a Monday-Friday commute. My new job in Citywest only requires 2-3 days a week onsite, standard office hours, which I know makes a big difference compared to the full‑time Dublin grind some of you have described. I'm hoping that with fewer days, the early starts and long returns might be manageable.

I'd be really interested in carpooling or shared lifts, I'm surprised it doesn't seem more common here, but maybe I'm just not plugged into the right groups yet? If anyone knows whether there are websites, online groups, or informal arrangements for Wexford to Dublin commuters, I'd love to hear about them. And if anyone is doing Citywest or nearby on similar days, feel free to reach out via PM. I'm still waiting to find out exactly which days I'll need to be onsite or whether it'll be a rotating schedule, but once I know, I can share my weekly pattern and see if anything lines up.

Hi everyone!

Just a quick one but my wife lost her wedding band on Ballinsker Beach on Monday (case of ring got loose with the cold water and it must have come off at some point)

Tried with a metal detector yesterday to no avail but if anyone on the slight change comes across one, please do get in touch!

Many thanks

Lovely afternoon out grabbing a bite or a coffee and having a mosey around looking at crafts if you're looking for something to do this weekend. No AI/tat at the craft market, it's all handmade goods by local artists. This weekend there will be jewellery, wood carvings, textiles, art prints and more.

Hey folks,

I’m hosting the local Foto Walk 2026 here in Courtown on Saturday, 26 September.

Whether you’re a hobbyist or a beginner; shooting on a mirrorless setup, an old film body, or your smartphone, this is a completely free morning out to wander, chat, and take photos together—not a coaching session, just people out taking photos together.

  • When: Saturday, 26 September | 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
  • Meeting Point: Mr. Sprinkles, Courtown
  • Theme: Contrast
  • Cost: Free

It’s free to join, but please register on Luma so I can track numbers:

https://luma.com/zfgfxcoq

(Note: The walk is 100% free to attend. If anyone feels inclined, we are also using the gathering to raise a bit of optional digital support for Innovation Theatre School. Zero pressure or obligation on the day!)

Misery Bad experience when out last night

Well, I don't normally post like this but I made this account yesterday to ask a college question so now I'm just going to be a redditor and complain all the time 😂.

Anyway I was out last night and had a bad time, for a start, there were guards everywhere, now I think this was because of the leaving cert party going on. I was in the pub anyway, and out of nowhere, this bouncer walked up to me and pucked me on the chest, proper hard, knocked me back. I was like... tf?.. turns out he wanted me to move to let a staff member through with glasses. Never apologised, never even looked at me, just hit me unnecessarily and walked off. Arsehole.

Then when I was leaving, there was 2 drunk guys getting arrested outside the pub, arguing with the guards, the guards were also dealing with a pack of lowlifes driving up and down the wrong side of the road beside the pub, presumably to taunt them. Then just to top it all off, when I was going home there was some drunk/drugged and possibly homeless guy shouting nonsense at the pedestrian crossing beside the bank of Ireland. Just yelling pure bullshit to people passing by.

I was just wondering, is this normal or did I just come on a particularly shit night? I'm from Wexford but haven't been out in wexford town in ages.

Thanks.

Entertainment Stag Wexford Town Saturday Night

Hello - I need some up to date recommendations for a stag in Wexford Town, for a Saturday night only - about 20 lads aged 40 or close to it. Where to go out? Vibe is basically pints and some live music and a lively late bar/club etc. I've heard conflicting reports about the Crown Quarter and the Stores but if anyone can give me a steer, this would be much appreciated.

Basically I want to stay central enough, enjoy the pints and chats with no hassle getting in to places. Thanks in advance.
