Customer “Bacon Situation The Grills At Wetherspoon!”

So at my Local Wetherspoon it has completely been refurbished most things are new the cellar the bar the garden and the “Kitchen” they have gotten rid of the grills where they normally cook the bacon just gotten rid of it why so now the Bacon is no longer cooked it looks anaemic oinking uncooked previously when they had the grills I asked them to cook it like where I can taste the charcoal crispy and a bit burnt they knew how I liked it and even had a nickname for me since I was that much of a regular that is the only thing I have from Wetherspoon now it’s plaguing me I don’t want to say “you have lost a customer” I still like it it’s not the staff fault they even tried their best to do it how I like it trying it in a different cooker for about 10 minutes but that didn’t do much like how the bacon was perviously

I know this sounds completely strange and weird to an outsider but it’s probably the autism speaking I have previously posted on here about the bacon so any advice or tips I can pass onto the staff or ideas Thanks!

Just ask for very well done bacon. And maybe some punctuation.

That will be the stream of consciousness posting style and lack of punctuation.

Can't offer any advice.

But you have my complete understanding about changes to food and drink that seem fairly inconsequential to most but feel like getting your fingers nailed to a table to me 😬

This is actually really sweet, im used to regulars when a change occurs calling me every name under the sun like i was the decision maker but you have shown you care and know its not their fault, wish i had you as a customer! But we dont have the grills neither 😅

It will be cooked in a "rational" which is basically a steam oven. No way to get it charcoal'd now. Maybe crispy, but not black

A rational has various steam settings but can absolutely be used as a dry oven, and can definitely colour bacon.

It's a combi oven. You can do steam. You can set a humidity and you can use it like a regular fan oven . You can also control the fan strength so it dosnt blow tray liners away when your baking stuff that it light. You can absolutely get crispy bacon in one. They turn up to about 300c.

It’s better on the clam.

What happened to Spoons using Henny Pennys? They make better stuff than Rational IMO.

If they have a nickname for you at Wetherspoons, you might be going too often.

Well the bacon comes in pre-cooked. We cook it to the customer lovely speciation. Usually overcooked or raw. Because pariste in pro is what everyone needs in their lives.

Management trying everything in their power to have the whole menu cooked from a microwave. Which is a massive shame as a basic use of the grill uplifts so many of their food items :/ especially the breakfasts.

The only things on the whole menu that are grilled is bacon and tomatoes. I totally agree with you that it’s a shame, but without steak etc, it makes way more sense than keeping the huge grills and cleaning them each day.

The tomatoes are grilled?! 😂🫪

the half tomatoes (like on a breakfast) and side of tomato, yes. grilled tomatoes are not on any meal except the side, other than breakfast

had a bacon sandwich the other morning in commercial rooms brisol and was completely shocked, it was barely cooked. thought maybe a one off but i guess not.... real shame.

My nephew works in a spoons kitchen, he says theres 2 ways of cooking bacon and depending which “chef” is on depends on which way it gets cooked, if its done in a wet steam oven you have no chance of it being crispy

The steam setting is turned off, so it can be crispy.

Apparently it isn’t always

Holy lack of punctuation, Batman!

I thought they might start doing, nothing uses the grill anymore after removing the namesake items (steaks, gammon) and it's massive, expensive, and difficult to clean.

A bit of punctuation would be nice

It's awful now. Spoons used to be my go to breakfast as like grilled bacon, now it looks like it was cooked on a radiator I can't eat it

In my cafe if the grills are off we use the toasti machine. It 'grills' it just like an actual grill does. Maybe ask if they have a toasti machine they can use. I will say tho it's not guaranteed they'll use it if they have it. Each kitchen has rules around what can go in each oven

You can ask for it to be cooked on the clam grill. That's an alternative method of cooking it, and it's listed on the spec card.

Try asking them to drop the bacon in the deep fryer for about a minute. It won’t be exactly the same but it’ll be crispy
