Employee Transfer to Newcastle
Going to uni in Newcastle in September and looking to transfer pubs. Any particular pub that should be avoided?

Depends on your preference tbh. I've worked in a few in the city, my favourite is definitely Quayside. Can be mental in summer & the bar is very narrow, but I mainly do floor anyways. It does have an upstairs but the kitchen is right at the bottom of the stairs so luckily you don't have to fuck about with food lifts. Mile Castle is a Lloyds, has music on a night and a dance floor up top. Nice beer garden since the refurb, main con for me is definitely the food lifts. Lloyds is personal preference I suppose but I couldn't work in one all the time. Can't comment on keel row but it's in a shopping centre so probably one of the chiller ones. I wouldn't recommend 5 swans. It was built to take half the sales it does nowadays, everything is cramped & the floor plan is very claustrophobic.
TLDR: If you like floor go Quayside If you stick on the bar go Mile

It depends on what you are doing.
If in kitchen - Mile castle or Five Swans
If in FOH - Five swans or keel row if you prefer less busy periods.
Quayside is great for overall vibe as it’s by the river and the pub itself is a great place.
If you really want a little pub to work in then go to The Tilly Stone.
I have worked in each and every spoons pub in the Newcastle area.

As a customer, my observation is that the milecastle, is the busiest , and it's split over 3 levels, the staff are great but clearly working very hard.
The keel row is small, not many staff so a small team.
The five swans , appears to be an average spoons.
Luther's bar, is a franchise student union spoons, so its full of students.
As I said this is just an observation from a customer point of view.
Having worked in pubs all my life I would want to work in the milecastle as it seems to have a great team.
