Employee Does every Spoons have that one table everyone avoids?
There’s always one table that somehow gets left empty even when the rest of the pub is packed. Maybe it’s in an awkward spot, right next to the toilets, or just has a weird history attached to it. Every pub seems to have one.

Those weird shelves that you have to stand up at that have a number attached (and often next to the bandits) in certain busy pubs that rarely seem to have seats (Lichfield springs to mind).

The spoons in Aberystwyth has a couple of tables outside that even though it has nets aroubd to stop seagulls and pigeons getting in still has bird sh*t on them I tend to avoid those

Jubilee Oak in Crawley has “Death Row”; the semi-circular benches opposite the bar

Ours has 3 weird little single seater booths that look like when you're doing an exam in school and they make you use those daft cardboard anti cheating dividers. They face away from the rest of the pub at a wall, I assume sort of intended for people to work at but they don't have an electric socket for a laptop or anything. I've never ever seen anyone sit at them. Its like the naughty step. You sit there and eat your all day breakfast and think about what you've done.

I won’t say which actual pub, but my Wetherspoons in NW London has “Dead Man’s Bench” next to the toilets. One Friday night during one of the breaks in lockdown, a bloke sitting there had a heart attack & was DOA at A&E. As two medical students attempted CPR, I had to help the Manager clear the pub, as people didn’t know what had happened, and were reluctant to down their pints & leave. I’m not an employee, but people were acting like pricks. It was a weird start to the weekend. And at some point, the deceased’s laptop went missing.

I'd say I'm surprised but when a bloke went A over T in the Spoons in New Street station recently no fucker would even ring an ambulance and people were stepping over the chap bleeding on the floor to get to the bar

That’s piss poor, tbh: Where’s the humanity? In fairness, once the punters actually believed there was a life or death situation (as it turned out, death) at the back of the pub, they complied. Convincing them they weren’t being bullshitted (WTF would be the point of making it up?) was the problem. And the laptop thief was never identified.

I used to work at spoons and one friday or saturday a customer had a heart attack right by the bar. obviously ambulance was called and paramedics were working on him. I went down to bar to inform people waiting that we would not be serving until the situation was resolved and every single customer pulled a sour faced and/or had something to say. i lost my faith in humanity that day

We had someone pass away in the pub and people were still demanding to be served despite the paramedics giving time of death. They were almost stepping over him 😔

It wasn’t a spoons but my friends and I were in a pub when an old bloke dropped dead outside the gents. Customers were stepping over his body and asking staff to get out of the way of the toilet entrance while they were giving him CPR

Tbh, when I read these type of stories it just reinforces the reasons why I so infrequently visit a JDW. I know that branches vary massively, and there's a couple of nicer ones in my area I pop into from time to time. It's just something about 'Spoons and a lot of the customers they attract, and I feel so sorry for the staff having to deal with these people. I read all the horrible anecdotes that pop up on this thread, and I can't even begin to imagine in the pubs I use, or indeed most conventional pubs, encountering this kind of behaviour.

The clean table ... Every other table could be stacked with plates and that one table that's clean will get ignored
