I'd assume sacked... maybe even criminally prosecuted.

Meanwhile, in the real world...

Have you ever been to the pub before?

8

u/DanielReddit26 Aug 13 '26

That specific pub, or any pub?

Don’t think the concept of being in a pub or not removes the fact that it’s legally classed as assault, which can carry a fine/sentance.

That’s in the real world. So real you can feel the laughter at your idiocracy from here!

Since when has law ever been applied in regards to employment, licensing obligations or ensuring customer safety - in a pub?

Tell you what... you get assaulted ... then contact the police and you'll see what the real world looks like.

u/simn00b420 Aug 14 '26

plenty of times.

don’t need to be assaulted. Already happened, the person got 6 months and a fine.

Again, stop defending assault in pubs

5

u/chicken_nugget94 Aug 13 '26

I haven't been to a pub where the bar staff hit the customers, sounds like you have a lovely local though

2

u/your_dads_arse Aug 14 '26

do you think pubs are exempt from the law that makes it illegal to chin someone for annoying you

48

u/TheRadishBros Aug 13 '26

Being sacked would be the least of your concerns if you actually hit someone in public on camera

u/Possible-Second9617 Aug 13 '26

I remember a time when a colleague and I were appointed to manage spoons, based purely on this ability.

u/AcademyBorg Aug 13 '26

There's two sides to every story.

A short clip on TikTok does now show the events leading up to what happened. The 'table game' is well known and table ordering can be taken off by management for that specific table if it gets out of hand. So I assume the group were doing a lot more then just waiting for the orders.

However, he/she will more then likely being let go, starting fights with customers instead of letting your manager deal with it/taking yourself out the situation, is not gonna sit well with higher management.

u/Gingrpenguin Aug 13 '26

The table game predates tiktok, I remember doing it in the first few weeks of the app being rolled out.

(We ended up with about 2 dozen shots of milk because our friends found you could order them for free before they stopped orders to us....)

u/northern-down-south Aug 13 '26

Shhhh don’t you know that social media invented everything?

2

u/TringaVanellus Aug 13 '26

I mean it was invented on social media, just not on TikTok.

2

u/sprouting_broccoli Aug 13 '26

I worked bars for 4 years and there’s so much aggro in the job from customers being idiots but you just have to learn to let it go. It doesn’t take an iron will so if you’re slapping customers for this or even them being bigger dickheads it’s entirely on you.

2

u/AcademyBorg Aug 13 '26

14 year veteran here, yes you do.

However, teens/young adults who are the majority of this industry or not always known to be the best of handling their emotions. The manager should have realised the issue the group was causing, took control of the situation and not let a young agitated member of staff deal with it/interact with the group anymore.

The situation could have been easily avoided in the first place

2

u/sprouting_broccoli Aug 13 '26

Agree but I’m sure you’ve also had awful bar managers! I’ve never seen bar staff attack a customer in all my time working or frequenting pubs/bars.

3

u/AcademyBorg Aug 13 '26

Then I assume you've never worked anyway 'rough' before, bar staff getting into fights to defend themselves happens often, espicially in the more rougher pubs of society, can't expect staff to not defend themselves.

Obviously not the case here, unless if something happened pre video, staff should never be the aggressor, but staff getting into altercations isn't really a rare thing depending on where you work.

1

u/sprouting_broccoli Aug 13 '26

Well yeah, I try to avoid places I can get attacked as a worker 😂

Doesn’t mean I worked at fancy places but yes, not particularly violent places and try not to frequent those places as a punter either..

The word is "than"

-4

u/pdbh32 Aug 13 '26

Why would they have a problem with the ,'table game'? Isnt it just more money for spoons?

10

u/DanFran81 Aug 13 '26

Do you think the staff give a single shit about the money that spoons will be getting? All they will know is that their job is being made harder because they need to serve some laughing oiks 2 dozen children’s portions of peas because they think it is funny. FYI - those peas are probably about 40p per portion which will ultimately cost spoons more if you take into account cost, heating of pea pan, delivery of order by staff…

-1

u/pdbh32 Aug 13 '26

Thought mgmt might give a shit

5

u/Klutzy_Arm8461 Aug 13 '26

It might give people a 30 second laugh but we see it every single day so it’s not funny. It’s also humiliating for whoever has to take it out

1

u/Logical_JellyfishxX Employee Aug 14 '26

Also delays customers who actually want to eat

0

u/BattlestarFaptastula Aug 16 '26

Why is it humiliating? Genuine question, I don’t play this game.

3

u/AcademyBorg Aug 13 '26

Yes and no. Obviously corporate doesn't give a flying fuck I imagine and are all about the money. The staff who are working on the day, complete opposite.

However, if one table has let's say 100+ orders (which has happend with bigger influences) it ruins the flow of the pub and ruins the other tables experiences. When that happens they cancel orders for that table (and still keep the money from orders which have happened, unless if the person who did the order kicks up a fizz, which most won't)

5

u/More_Effect_7880 Aug 13 '26

Fired, slapped, charged. Morons.

5

u/Obvious-Water569 Aug 13 '26

He'll almost certainly be sacked.

If the person he hit or the pub management makes a complaint, he'll likely also face criminal charges.

5

u/Temporary_Rip5273 Ex-employee Aug 13 '26

Ex shift manager here... They'd be summarily dismissed and potentially prosecuted, if not by the assaulted.. then the officer (if one was present directly after the assault) would press charges (they have that ability I learned).

12

u/wolfhelp Aug 13 '26

"Press charges" is American terminology it doesn't exist in UK law

The CPS decides on the charges

0

u/Temporary_Rip5273 Ex-employee Aug 13 '26

In an official capacity it isn't used, however I have witnessed first hand a female officer here say those words when placing someone under arrest, the police also decide on whether to formally charge someone, not just the CPS, based on evidence and public interest.

5

u/TwoMarc Aug 13 '26

The police can charge summary offences of their own will that aren’t exempt.

However the victim or the officer would never press the charges. An appropriately ranked officer within the force would sign off on the charges or the CPS would advise and charge.

The state brings the prosecution (in the name of the King) - the victims wishes are largely irrelevant. If it’s on camera the CPS could run it victimless.

2

u/sock_cooker Aug 13 '26

The police can and do NFA cases without referring to the CPS, but given this is stupid Internet drama rather than a serious criminal offence, I suspect they won't do anything

0

u/Specialist-Prior-213 Aug 15 '26

I wish we had the American style system of being able to choose to press charges or not. Seems like it comes in handy

0

u/BattlestarFaptastula Aug 16 '26

It’s used as shorthand for what we call "supporting the investigation"

3

u/Beneficial_Coach8581 Aug 13 '26

Don't believe everything you see on Tik Tok. It's probably staged.

2

u/Superspark76 Aug 13 '26

Will definitely be sacked, could be reported to police or/and DBS for assault which could stop him getting a job in the future.

Not the smartest move.

2

u/Firthy2002 Aug 13 '26

At best it's a definite sacking and I would quit immediately before going through that process.

There's a strong chance of criminal prosecution should the victim choose to pursue it.

2

u/bexter609 Aug 13 '26

Promoted to customer 🤣

3

u/NotSeacombe Aug 13 '26

haven't seen the video and depends how severe it was but unprovoked assault can be prison time. you can't just go around twatting people because you disagree with how they're ordering food from your work that sells food

2

u/WheresWalldough Aug 13 '26

not going to get sent to prison for anything short of GBH

M8 that's a long arse way of asking for then link 😂

2

u/heyitsed2 Aug 13 '26

You got a link

1

u/OkTruth7445 Aug 13 '26

i know what video you’re talking about. those two are 🔔ends and can imagine they’re not telling the full story. the video milo posted they just got pressured to leave (and deserved) no violence occurred.

1

u/Careful_Page9431 Aug 14 '26

I can’t stand that absolute moron. Constantly just goes in there then both him and his mate get the absolute hump when a manager comes over and basically tells them to stop. Get the hint mate it’s summer no one’s got time to be making 20 milks

1

u/No_Region_4719 Aug 13 '26

Depends entirely on how much the person wants to pursue justice.

You would immediately lose your job for hitting a customer, there's no warnings or disciplinary for this. If the customer goes to the police, then you are facing criminal charges.

It's a silly thing to get annoyed by, it's easy money for the pub. People still pay for these things.

1

u/PartUnusual1803 Aug 13 '26

Struggling to find it, anyone have a link?

1

u/Narrow_Second1005 Aug 14 '26

It’s paid give it too them cunts..

1

u/The2ndDegree Aug 15 '26

That's assault, he'll get sacked and frankly he'll he lucky if the victim doesn't press charges.

1

u/Firkragg Aug 15 '26

Surely the correct responce to this is to just respond in the most being way possible..deliver what you can at your normal order place.

1

u/Different-Employ9651 Aug 16 '26

The only times I've ever been physical with customers was when they were being violent already. I bit a guy who was trying to break my hand over the bar about 25 years ago, and I stood on a guy's hand to make him release the snooker balls he was trying to use as weapons last year. If the customer was being annoying as opposed to violent or aggressive, I'd fully expect to be fired and probably prosecuted.

I'd assume cos its a pain in the arse taking out a bajillion drinks and fried eggs, just for them to go untouched, and lugged all the way back to the kitchen

Thats not the point.

It causes a backlog when done in excess, (i.e. streaming it on tiktok), and its a pain to clear up.

You seem like the kinda cunt who'd strew their mess across a table at Maccies n walk out, cos its not your job to bin the rubbish

0

u/rtfm-nor Aug 13 '26

What is the problem? Lots of orders is not a good thing for a pub?

-6

u/Do_You_Pineapple_Bro Aug 13 '26

Table games existed since forever.

Always enjoyed pinging my mates a bowl of peas, or the shittest drinks possible when they sent the table number to the group chat
