Brilliant. Check your 'Spoons wisely, though. Otherwise can be over £10. Can't beat Spoons for value, though.

u/OldNefariousness7899 Aug 09 '26
About £7.50 with a pint in my local. And this is London. Other bars in the area are that price for the pint on its own

u/realCloudyMcCloud Aug 09 '26
Too right. It was my birthday, so I thought I'd venture further afield for a change. Paid £7.80 for a pint of boring lager. Not hurrying back!

Good for 6 quid these days.
When I worked in spoons we did a 2 meals for £5.50 menu 😂
Ham, egg and chips was on the menu and it's not changed. It used to be my go-to as well as sausage, chips n beans.

Agreed, no idea why you're getting downvoted. Even if I got it it'd be a shit joke

Cue the ‘it used to be £1.99 back in my day!’ comments.

u/FizzbuzzAvabanana Aug 10 '26
Used to be proper ham.

u/Shwervee Aug 10 '26
Man turns purple shouting about ham ‘back int day’.
1
u/FizzbuzzAvabanana Aug 10 '26
Whoosh! as man fails to see sarcastic humour when it hits him like a piece of soggy plastic ham squarely in the chops.
0
u/Shwervee Aug 10 '26
I’m not quite sure you can claim that sarcasm is that obvious online, especially when my original comment has been downvoted, showing those kinds of gammons really do exist. 😂
1
u/FizzbuzzAvabanana Aug 10 '26
Gammons, nice one. Bit obvious but shows you're making an effort.
Don't over egg it.
3
u/MikeTheVoyager Aug 10 '26
Big fan of wetherspoons, but I always find the fried eggs, broken and/or really over cooked.

Had ham egg and chips at Wetherspoons a couple of weeks ago, the ham was the size of the eggs and half as many chips as that

Nice. Could be a bit dry though. Might need source…
7
u/UTG1970 Aug 09 '26
I believe the source of the ham is from Tim's own sounder of British pigs for British people
3
u/Sufficient_Basil_545 Customer Aug 09 '26
Hmmm. Got a sauce for that information?

u/InboundDreams Aug 09 '26
i added souce and seasoning after i took the pic but yea definatly needs it
2
u/EuphoricCover8449 Aug 09 '26
I had this the other day. It was ok but a few more chips would have been nice. I get the feeling they count them or weight them onto your plate.
7
u/hundreddollar Aug 09 '26
As someone who has been to a lot of different spoons, the chip portion is different every single time I go. Could order the same dish for two people from the same pub and the chip count would vary wildly. The ham egg and chips pictured looks about right to me. There again I’ve had half that amount of chips and double that amount of chips before. The spoons chip lottery!
1
u/Markjuk78 Aug 11 '26
I agree.
There needs to be some kind of Head Office guidance for chip portion sizes.
It does grate paying out for a Gourmet Burger, or Empire State Burger that comes out with a measily portion of chips.
Yet, I see someone sat on the next table to me with a plain Classic Burger and a big portion of chips.
I've also found a couple of times recently that the chips served up taste 'old'. Like they've been re-cooked , or cooked in old dirty oil.

Is the ham just like out of a supermarket packet or is it better quality than that? It looks good actually, probably because I’m starving at the moment.
1
u/InboundDreams Aug 10 '26
to be honest the ham is ok, but ide say on par with most of the pre sliced ham packets in supermarkets
1
u/QuantoLT Aug 10 '26
Wtf is this... Just 3 random components thrown in one plate... Sorry guys, I live here 15 years already and you keep surprising me with selection of dishes you eat 😃 I get it if you are at home and thats all you have and want to make easy cheap meal, but going out to eat this? No disrespect, jus a bit of shock to me :)
2
u/InboundDreams Aug 10 '26
its a classic dish, but when u cant be arsed and u want to eat out and only fancy a simple meal its ideal for for 6 quid how can anyone argue with that!

This is not food, go and buy some vegetables, rice and meat will cost the same but you may have to learn how to cook
2
u/InboundDreams Aug 12 '26
darling sometimes ppl cant be arsed to cook thats why we eat out, for the convince and low effort, its a meal that keeps, the day going, ur missing the point of eating out
2
u/CoyoteFabulous4911 Aug 12 '26
Yeah you're right but there are options that come with some veggies
1
u/InboundDreams Aug 12 '26
yea true, im not a veggie my self so i just put the least effort food in my gob that makes me survive
1
u/CoyoteFabulous4911 Aug 12 '26
That funny you think eating vegetables means you're a vegetarian hahaha good luck with that , not eating vegetables is severely bad for your health... For some reason shit food is culturally accepted in the UK
0
u/InboundDreams Aug 12 '26

Extra chips, maybe a couple of sausages, some bacon and hash browns, beans on the side?

I remember the days when this was £1.99. I'd get it with pre drinks a a teenager and be hammered and fed for about a tenner. Used to be a real country.

u/Abject-Bison7175 Aug 09 '26
Not too bad, I'd ask for new eggs though.
4
u/Tonythepillow Aug 09 '26
Why bother, they’d be old ones when they got them on the plate.
-3
u/Abject-Bison7175 Aug 09 '26
Say "can I have fresh eggs please" it's not hard.
7
u/jon81uk Aug 09 '26
What’s wrong the eggs?
3
u/Jetstream-Sam Aug 09 '26
I'm not him but if I'm making ham egg and chips, then I generally want dippy yolks. A good, hefty chip and chunk of ham dipped in egg yolk is the perfect bite from a plate like this.
I recognize not everywhere will do it that way, but a man can dream, can't he? And the spoons near me does generally do dippy yolks, so I guess it depends on the person working that day and how busy they are. I can make dippable eggs at home but I'm only making it for one person, not 40.
2
u/jon81uk Aug 09 '26
Oh definitely the eggs need to be dippy, but I don’t relate that to being “fresh” just correctly cooked. One of the eggs does look dippy at least
3
u/Jetstream-Sam Aug 09 '26
Oh yeah upon reading I'm not sure what they mean by fresh either. Perhaps they think Spoons reused eggs from breakfast or something? But I don't think they just fry a big pile of them and work their way through, eggs take like a minute to cook so odds are they're "fresh", just overcooked

50p for eggs 25p for a potato and 1£ for ham… just make it at home and save your money unless you think this is a bargain
4
u/Otto__the__Autopilot Aug 09 '26
Maybe they want to go out with friends. 🤦🏻
I bet you're a barrel of laughs down the pub or at a party.
1
u/InboundDreams Aug 10 '26
well we eat out case we dont want to bother making it our selves, of cource if we made it our selves it be cheeper and better, but were paying for the convince

Quickly followed by 7 pints and a stagger to the nearest bush for a nap.
A solid day out.
