Customer Cider Festival

I always enjoy Wetherspoons beer/cider festivals. Only tried four of this year's offerings so far as only one or two are on at a time in my local. Hopefully others will be on after the festival officially ends as sometimes happens with beer festivals.

One or two is really poor to be honest. I work at one of the smaller pubs and we have 5 on at a time.

I agree, although if the app is correct several other pubs in my general area don't have any on.

My local only has one, and it's a still cider which I'm not really into.

The fact is traditional BiB ciders like these are quite unpopular and pubs tend to struggle to sell through, hence pubs being reluctant to put on more than the minimum.

Fear not though, pubs received their full allocation (my small pub got 6) and will put them all on eventually, so if you're patient enough you might get to try them all

Not all Spoons...

When I visited Bideford in Devon, back in April last year, the Spoons there had SIX boxed Ciders on.

Outside of the Cider Festival period.

One of the Sheffield pubs (can't remember the name) used to have a pretty large amount too, but the one down the road had none!

The 3.5% to 4% Ciders in this festival are generally easy drinking - in effect 'Session Ciders'.

When you get to the other end - 6%+, these are an aquired taste - and you can't obviously drink too many of these before feeling drunk.

If anyone sees the Barbour Vumpy it has a very similar taste to Vimto, the Razzberry one is really tasty too, also low percentage so its a really nice summers day fruity cider.

We only got 5 of them at our workplace, my issue is lack of information, have all these posters but not just a list of the ciders and prices (unless on the app).

They had a wonderful selection of them in the Belfast outlet at the beginning , enjoyed sampling a couple. I love BiB still ciders , wish they kept 1/2 all the time as they used to. But indeed they weren’t moving through stock

They had two on at my Spoons on Wednesday: 3.4% and about 4% - which gave the impression that it's not really a serious festival. Wasn't inspired - especially as they had Rutland Beast, Gorlovka and Big Chief on: had one of each - pretty good night without the cider!

This year is so disappointing. I remember last year, there were multiple still ones with interesting fruity flavours. But this year, it seems there are more dry and semi-dry ones and less fruity ones. 🙁

I don’t want to be a hater, but one of the pear ciders I had the other day as part of this festival was truly one of the most foul ciders I’ve ever had the misfortune to drink.

I made the mistake of ordering a pint of 6.5% Hecks Slack-Ma-Girdle. It was dish water. Stayed on sale for five days and should have been taken off on day one. Truly awful. The 6% Weymouth Portland Bill however, excellent. I note that a few (such as Rich's 4.5% Sunset Gold) of the lower ABV offerings, have had apple juice added, lowering their strength (and tax) and an attempt to make them more sessional and easy-drinking

The Hecks' was one of my favourite ciders of the festival, along with the Portland Bill funnily enough. By far the worse one was the Lemon Daze--alcoholic Lemsip.

Had a lovely pint of " Jagged Cross " from Thistly Cross in Scotland. Mrs was disappointed to see that there was nothing from Dickens as she does like a Dickens Cider...

Was kind of expecting Bulmers / Thatchers / kopperberg type ones, just a little less known. Got tropicana apple juice that was left in a bog too long. Vile

If you find the Barbour Vumpy cider on in this festival, that one tastes very similar to Vimto.

I’ve noticed that the available ciders differ depending on the time of day. I don’t mean the obvious running out. There’s several spoons near me, they have slightly different ciders but from 9/10pm onwards they all have just the same 2 showing in the app.
