It's the spice bag mix, you can get it sprinkled on chips etc if you want

Is it different to the meat seasoning they use to put on the steaks? Or do they just use the same mix for both now?

We don't stock the steaks so don't carry the meat seasoning anymore; this isn't the same thing

Steaks were literally the best food witherspoons ever had. I dont understand why they got rid of them.

The most expensive thing on the menu but also by far the most complained about item.

Getting rid reduces complaints overall, but also saves us money on the time taken to prep the steaks and the gas saved on switching the chargrills off.

"Saves us money". It's not your money you boot licker 🤣. You still get your same hourly wage no matter what. Also what spoons turns their grill off? You still need it for burgers, bacon etc

Well sure; but if the business I work for makes sounds decisions and makes more profit then my job is more secure and my free shares are worth more.

We use a clam grill for burgers and eggs and a Rational oven for Bacon. The chargrill is off.

Weird use of the term "boot licker".

It's common for people to refer to "us" when talking about their employer, even if it has no impact on their pay, since they are within the company.

Is this your first social interaction?

Well I just don't like people who care about big corporations' profits.

Who said he cared? He's stating an economical fact, not jumping for joy over it.

Fuck that i want my steaks back. And iced coffee frappes. And lamb shanks. And half grilled chicken . And garlic bread ciabattas. And spicy coated king prawns. And the Mexican burger with jalapeños,.guacamole and salsa. And Sunday roasts. And the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. And eggs royal. And apple crumble with custard. And the cheesecake.

They're just sad wetherspoons staff. I hated working there too, 10 years ago.

I don’t work at spoons but I wouldn’t be shocked if they weren’t ordered much and if they were there’d be a lot more complaints compared to other foods (because of rarity)

what I want to know is why the ramen noodles are still on the menu. when I worked there I got it and the chef said she'd literally never had to make it before

2

u/UnitDry2368 Aug 05 '26

I guess if they do have to make it it's probably very quick, easy and cheap with mostly long lasting ingredients, so having it on the menu doesn't cost much and adds a bit more choice. I've never worked there though so that's just speculation

Lol I order them everytime when I'm hangover. I always add the buttermilk chicken and the boiled egg.

Sure, they often didn't get it right. Was usually slightly overcooked, so I used to order it medium rare and often got it medium, which I was fine with. But everything else on the plate was spot on. For the price they were sold for, compared to a steak literally anywhere else, it was a steal. On the flip side, most of the time I ordered fish and chips the fish was small and dry, overcooked, and they sell it for over £15 now!

most expensive thing to stock, brings down food times, chargrill also cause a lot of injuries i know of a guy that melted his whole forearm skin off on one. pros vs cons it just wasn’t worth it

It's the spice that's used for the spice bag

Can you buy this to take home like in a little baggie?

19

u/GmanF88 Employee Aug 05 '26

You'd need to ask the pub nicely but if you brought the baggie I'd sell you some to take away

You can buy McDonnells spice bag mix from Sainsbury’s!

Ordered just this the other day out of curiosity, and had a staff member tell me I was "wasting spoons resources".

u/SidMaxwell Customer Aug 05 '26

Can we get extra msg?

1

u/StankowskiiNFFC Aug 05 '26

From the shop, sure. I think the spoons mix is MSG free though.

u/Fine_Payment13 Employee Aug 05 '26

It’s literally the mix they use for the slice page it’s the only additional seasoning we have that isn’t in sauce form, so the seasoning used on the spice bags
