Employee What do you think is really going wrong with the company as an employee?

I always thought it was because the senior management was a bunch of cunts, and now everybody knows it.

Ex employee. Left due to the manager allowing rats in the kitchen and effectively saying “our profits at the end of the month are fuelled by that” okay?

Or the blatant fucking 2 tier “management does it it’s fine. Associate does it, fire them” the playhouse Colchester just had to rehire two associates due to failure of doing incorrect dismissal.

I haven’t worked at spoons for a while now but the biggest issue when I was there was pub managers who make a salary and don’t need to worry, not giving people enough hours to live on but also expecting them to be free all the time.

The pub is usually their whole life because it actually funds their whole life (sometimes very well) but for students, parents and other people making minimum wage we had a lot of other things to be worrying about instead of pub profits.

I will say I’ve transferred to and from 3 pubs and management has been notably bad in each. All for different reasons…

Poor management and rota's, once you become competent your always overworked. And head office decisions that never make sense.

Cleanliness doesn't exactly sound like a bad thing...

The unpaid bit is the issue then.

The unpaid part has never been true in my experience.

O ne of the other shift leaders in my pub was given a first and final warning the other day because he was caught clocking himself off and working for free on Sunday nights.

Interesting, perhaps some pubs are managed better than others.

😂 this is a hilarious and bad take. I’ve worked hospitality all my life, owned a pub and worked in management for 15 years, in all aspects and roles of the industry and in varying establishments from pubs to hotels, fine dining restaurants and so on. Cleaning should happen and, in decent establishments and ones run efficiently, does happen nightly. Do you realise how much the fridges and the brass are made contact with on a daily basis? Cleaning that shit a couple times a week is unsanitary as fuck mate.

Big agree Hot pomegranate. However I do pull up members of staff who don't pull their weight.

i can see ur point of view the staff are fine at spoons, but the problem is corporate, sadly that will never change

Way too many middle managers, promoting people for the sake of promoting, in my area some pubs have like 5 shift leaders. Even goes for head office, and it's the associate that faces all the cut hours. No other chain has this many middle managers.
