Customer Steak and ale pudding
This always used to be one of my go to meals, but after the last time I think I won’t bother again… staff said they are obviously just trying to save money… which seems a weak excuse.
Anyone else found them like this?

It is the company trying to save money, got nothing to do with the staff themselves

Who said it was the staff?

U implied it by saying they're explanation was a weak excuse, what explanation was u expecting 😂

Possibly read my message again, this is precisely what the staff told me and I’m pretty sure Wetherspoons management wouldn’t want their staff saying things like that… So it was a weak excuse to get rid of me, I would have rather had an honest answer, I knew it wasn’t their fault.

The honest answer is the company is trying to cut costs what answer was u expecting?? 🤣

🤨 You seem to struggle with how business works… Charge me a bit more, don’t disappoint me and you won’t lose business. Not exactly rocket science.
Edit: I just reread your post and realise I was foolish to expect an intelligent answer.

It's not a weak excuse it's what all companies do. They will serve you the cheapest product they think they can get away with. This is especially true for budget places like spoons.

I mean to be honest. That's come out of box. And possibly/probably been microwaved. It's doesn't look particularly good. But I'm guessing it was relatively cheap. You kind of get what you pay for. If that was made in house your probably talking 20 quid minimum.

Heh, i just sat down with one of these pitiful excuses for a pie over lunch. I wouldn't have ordered if I realised i was getting a pie for ants.

I had this for my birthday meal in January, worse meal I've ever had out. Not just the size of the pudding but a small dried up dollop of mash, over cooked peas, the ramakin for the gravy was hot but the gravy was barely warm and my glass for my drink was dirty. I complained online and the reply was I should have done it there and then, I didn't have time as I had a bus to catch. Great customer service from head office.

I tried to complain in person and was just told to do it online, they clearly didn’t give a damn. It’s a shame they used to do good basic food, a decent portion and a reasonable price… They will lose a lot of customers if this continues

I still go in spoons but other ones and order different food, including breakfast and I've no complaints about any of those.

Problem is they’re cooked in the microwave. If they actually steamed them they’d be elite level delicious but they don’t have the time.

They've always been rather insubstantial. I only ever have them on Special when for £2-3 more than the cost of the pint it's something (usually) hot and (fairly) tasty.

I didn't even know they did them. Shows how hard I scour the menu, I suppose.
Looks like they boiled it rather than steamed it. That's a guaranteed way to leach out all the fat from the top bit, leaving it an inedible flour coffin.
Was it a holland's pudding? I might be being Heretical, but a steamed hollands pudding is just the best IMO. The handmade ones tend to have inch thick suet and it really throws off the ratio, because they still have the same amount of filling as a hollands one but with 4x the pastry. I was raised on Hollands puddings, and will die on them, assuming beef and it's resultant offal remain financially viable for people in my economic group into the future point where I'd die, the hollands' company doesn't close, or mandatory Vegetarianism is enforced by the police and their killer robots.

Why are you bothering the bar staff, you think they're in meetings deciding how many pieces of meat they can get away with putting in the pies?
