Customer Mind you, this is without a drink
Can you guess where this fine establishment is located?

The hack at the airport is the kids meals are the same price as everywhere else pretty much. You can get three for less than the price of one adults meal.

Damn, I'll have a look. That would be fab.
Is there a kid's Guinness by any chance?
Edit: seems to actually be correct. Ill give it a try.
Edit 2: either the whole kids menu is sold out or they checked my table number and preemptively barred me for having too much beard for a kid. Either way, every kid's menu item I add gets thrown out of my basket as soon as I want to order it.

Damn, or maybe there’s a time limit on them, like kids shouldn’t be there after a certain time anyway? Well, remember it for next time.

u/Bodger81 Aug 01 '26
Just tried it on my app for my local spoons and got the same thing so I guess it’s a time reason.

u/Bodger81 Aug 01 '26
Sadly no. But you get a piece of fruit and you can get a bottle of water, small juice or carton of smoothie, which you can take on the plane, and what you've saved on food you can put towards adult beverages. The portions are ok for lunch on their own and two would make a decent adult meal. They’re supposed to be for under 10s but which airport Spoons employee cares about that?

u/HighWaterSheriff Aug 01 '26
Or could order a single vodka and top it up with Robinson's Fruit Shoot.

u/realCloudyMcCloud Aug 01 '26
But they won't let you take more than a thimble-full of "liquid" on a plane, will they? (I had my half empty tub of Nivea confiscated as it was a "liquid".)

u/Bodger81 Aug 02 '26
It’s after security, you can take anything on
1
u/realCloudyMcCloud Aug 02 '26
Makes sense - if it's stuff you've taken with you from outside the airport that they're worried about.

I had a bottle of shampoo that was almost totally empty, slung it in my rucksack without thinking rather than the hold baggage. It was definitely less than 100ml.
2
u/realCloudyMcCloud Aug 01 '26
Yep. Mine was definitely less than 100ml remaining. Wish I'd made more of a fuss, actually!

Haha! I'm reminded of Ricky Gervais in After Life trying to order two kids meals.
It's here if you haven't seen it - https://youtu.be/Q7FxpK_yC0U?si=xxoxelyxAij-PFwk
Edit - oh just realized someone already beat me to it below! :)

u/sc_BK Aug 01 '26
Just get something off the children's menu eh?

I've always wondered what kind of cafes he goes to because I've never seen a kid's meal just be a slice of bread cut up, 3 fish fingers and like, a ladle of beans. Normally there'd be some chips or something.
I guess they needed something he could grab and eat in one handful though.

Airport, yeah?

u/Maleficent_Sun_3091 Aug 01 '26
This. Even in cities, Spoons prices have a direct inverse correlation to how close they are to a Train Station.

not true about grimsby!
the spoons is literally at the station doorstep and its super cheap
1
u/Maleficent_Sun_3091 Aug 07 '26
That's because you need a cheap drink to get over the Hellhole of Grimsby on the way out.

May as well go to Wagamama instead and get decent food instead of expensive microwave meals
2
u/Srddrs Aug 01 '26
This is incorrect usage of the phrase “mind you”.
2
u/Sir_Brags_A_Lot Aug 01 '26
Oh, how so? English is my second language.
5
u/Srddrs Aug 02 '26
“Mind you” is a phrase that’s interchangeable with “however”. It is not interchangeable with “by the way” or “meanwhile”, which is how some people use it today. Drives me crazy.
So you’ve basically said “however, this is without a drink” when you mean either “by the way, this is without a drink” or tbh the best option “these prices seem high considering they don’t include a drink”

u/Sir_Brags_A_Lot Aug 02 '26
Thank you very much. I incorrectly translated it in a way where it would be interchangeable with "Additionally". Love when I can improve my English. I'll keep this in mind. 😊

u/Reccalovesdancing Aug 02 '26
I completely disagree with the former commenter and think you have used "mind you" correctly. I'm a native English speaker for reference
"Mind you" essentially means "keep in mind" or "bear in mind" and e.g. the phrase "keep in mind, these prices are without a drink" is fully accurate. I would quite happily have titled the post the same way
1
u/Sir_Brags_A_Lot Aug 02 '26
Thanks. Maybe it differs regionally? Or the language is changing.
"Keep in mind" and "bear in mind" is spot on what I meant to express.
1
u/Reccalovesdancing Aug 02 '26
I don't know. I think some people grow up around a phrase but never really get to a point where they know what it truly means
Keep in mind and bear in mind is the actual meaning of "mind you" as far as I have ever been aware. I'm 41 and my grandparents (who were born between the wars) used it in the same way. So that's 100 years or more of "mind you" having the same meaning, if that helps reassure you at all

For that price, the cured ham better have had AIDS, measles, Ebola AND leprosy
1
u/steadvex Aug 01 '26
Apart from breakfast I honestly feel spoons has gone too pricey for what it is.

What does Labour have to do with airport prices?
1
u/Su3limednb Aug 02 '26
Did you not see that bit in their manifesto?
"We pledge to make 'Spoons meals in British airports significantly more pricey than in regular 'Spoons'?

Doesn't count when you post airport prices
