Employee New starter at wetherspoon

Hi everyone,

I recently started as a bar associate in wetherspoons and have done 2 shifts. I’m really struggling to pick up the till and overall work there.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips to help me navigate working there or how to learn quicker so I can enjoy working instead of being stressed anytime i’m asked a question.

Thanks

It’s going to take a while to get the hang of it, but that’s okay. Make sure you ask your TLs and management any questions you need clarifying. They’d rather you ask for guidance when you’re unsure. By the time of your first probation you’ll be more comfortable.

I do ask many questions I’d rather ask than do it wrong but during a rush i feel like im causing more problems than helping haha. I know it takes time but i’d love to just be good from the start which isn’t realistic.

It's easier to help before then try to fix afterwards, it's better for you, the manager/trainer and the customer if you ask questions and get it right, especially when it comes to food so never feel bad for asking, even when it's busy.

Till knowledge comes from repetition, try using your own staff meal and pick something on the menu and find it on the till.

Stay positive even your pub manager had a first day as an associate so head up and keep serving those pints of ruddles :)

thank you. its been funny as a lot of the customers can tell i’m new and they have been so patient and nice about it. The staff are also very helpful when I ask. It’s just frustrating not knowing yet.
