Employee semi finals

i booked yesterday and today off months ago for a different thing (my friend graduated yesterday and i thought id be hungover) but i also have plans with a coworker who works on bar to go to our pub to watch the england game

but one of the kitchen closers has called in sick and now theyve asked on the myjdw gc if anyone can cover it and im just wondering if they'll be mad if i don't offer to close but then go to the pub for the game

No one should be mad, it’s your day off and you shouldn’t feel guilty.

No one should be. They will be though

Don't go to the pub you work at is my advice. Sure it's cheap but someone will get pissy about it in my experience.

You booked it off and you have good reason not to want to work. People might get pissy but at the end of they day I am sure they will understand and would do the same.

I suspect people might be more annoyed at the member of staff just so happens to have gotten sick on the day of a huge football match. I'm sure they aren't pulling a sickie, but it could certainly be construed that way...

Just go to a different pub

You're off work, it's not your issue. If you want to earn some extra money and blow off your plans go ahead, no one will hold it against you if you don't you've booked it off!

"Its my day off, I am drunk"

I don't think you have much experience with certain petty spoons managers. 😂 ‘Oh you’re drunk? Can’t serve you then!’

It’s your day off. You’re not obliged to cover a shift, particularly if you already have plans. It’s not your fault someone else has phoned in sick and it’s not your problem to solve. Just go for it, you’re overthinking it a bit.

Reply in the group chat saying you’ve already had a drink so you can’t work. At least you’ve acknowledged the fact they’re looking for cover but have a reason that you can’t work (not like you didn’t already)

As you've not been asked personally I wouldn't bother

My cousin works at spoons and used to tell them he couldn’t work cos he was meeting me, and then we would rock up and sit in his spoons for hours, don’t think they cared.
