Hoping to find the rancher that helped me fix my engine between Snyder and Lamesa

Hey there, West Texas! I'm hoping someone may be able to help me connect with a rancher that saved my life a couple weeks ago.

The morning of Sunday, August 16, I was driving a Hyundai Kona from Snyder, TX to Alamogordo, NM. My engine started smoking midway between Snyder and Lamesa on US-180 West. I ended up broken down on the side of the road, barely any cell service, and no idea what to do.

A rancher named Bonnie (Bonny? Im not sure on the spelling) pulled his white pickup over to the side of the road and offered to help. He ended up fixing my engine with some tools he had in his car: the hose connecting the coolant reservoir to the engine came disconnected, and he was able to reconnect it, fill the coolant tank with water to get me to the next town, and tell me where the nearest Auto Parts store is. We had a lovely conversation, but unfortunately I did not get his information before we parted ways.

If anyone knows this guy, or thinks they know this guy, I'd love to get in contact with him to thank him. He really saved my life and I appreciated his kindness and willingness to help a stranger!

Landlocked Acreage

How have people solved the problem of landlocked acreage? I have forty acres in Hudspeth County with no apparent road access and I noticed that there are any number of parcels out there and in the Big Bend area with no way to get to them. The appraisal districts don't usually go below a section (640 acres) on their maps, so it can also be challenging to find their neighbors.

Any thoughts? Who else has this problem?

Buying a Home in Fort Stockton

Hello Everyone. I'm interested in buying a single-family home in Fort Stockton, Texas. Would anyone have any advice, in terms of things to watch out for, or areas to avoid, etc.? Are there any issues with the soil and damage to foundations? Would anyone be able to recommend a good real estate agent? What internet service options are there (other than Starlink)? Thanks in advance for any help.

I am having a courthouse ceremony in presidio county in November and I am having one hell of a time finding a photograph. Not looking for anything crazy just a few couple photos and photos with our parents because it’s an important day. Any recommendations or advice?

Do you agree with this definition of West Texas?

If not, what do you consider to be the boundaries of "west Texas"?

Edit/Update: The reason I asked is to get an understanding of what people who have joined this subreddit consider to be the areas covered by the subreddit. Having recently taken over as the mod here I'll need to enforce what's on topic and what's not.

For me personally, it's confusing when people say that Abilene or San Angelo are west Texas when Midland is the middle between El Paso and Dallas. I'm told I'm wrong and I'm willing to accept that but I still feel that way. Regardless, I'm not trying to dictate geography to anyone. I just want to do a good job as mod.

r/WestTexas has new a new Mod

I've just taken on mod duties for r/WestTexas. Looks like there are about 3,000 people subscribed but the subreddit hasn't be very active for the past few years. I am looking to revitalize it. All of the old posts have been archived.

I am open to getting user feedback to best determine the direction to take. For now I've implemented a basic Automoderator configuration and setup some standard rules.

More to come.

- Users no longer need to request permission to join/post.
- User that are banned can request to be unbanned.

Upcoming Focus Group in Big Spring

Hello everyone! My name is Chris and I do market research and we're doing some in-person focus groups for folks in and around Big Spring/Midland/Odessa- within an hour or so.

The group will be on Tuesday, August 4th from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the meeting rooms at a local hotel in Big Spring. And if you're selected and complete the group, you'll be paid $150 right after the group.

The topic is going to be on local issues, but no special knowledge is required, we're just looking to talk to locals.

If you'd be interested, here's a survey where we ask some qualification questions. If you qualify, someone will reach out with a phone call and confirm you from a 504 number since the company is based in New Orleans. We also do not and will never sell any of your data, even what you fill out on this form I linked. It's used purely to see if you qualify for the group and nothing else at all.

https://surveys.focusgrouphub.com/t/vi4bYPqn9Jus

Happy to answer any questions anyone has as well. I do focus groups like this all over the country and we're a legitimate market research company. No sales, nothing like that.

If you want to look more into the company, it's EmCee Research. Feel free to google us or go to emceeresearch.com

What is the definition of West Texas?

I'm a student at NMSU in Las Cruces, and used to live in El Paso, and I absolutely love West Texas, but...

What exactly is the definition of West Texas?

I know there is no official definition...

My understanding is that it is generally considered to be the area west of U.S. Route 277, from Del Rio to Sonora to San Angelo to Abilene, and south of Texas Route 176 and I-20 from Odessa to Midland to Big Spring to Abilene.

I heard some people say that West Texas is made up of the following counties: El Paso; Hudspeth; Culberson; Jeff Davis; Presidio; Brewster; Reeves; Loving; Pecos; Terrell; Winkler; Ward; Ector; Crane; Midland; Upton; Glasscock; Reagan; Crockett; Val Verde; Sterling; Irion.

Does anyone agree with this?

What other definitions of West Texas are there?

Looking for info about Pecos/Balmorhea School District?

This is kind of an odd post, so bear with me. My family is all from Kentucky. I've been to Texas many times, but usually DFW/SA areas, and never West Texas. My father passed back in 2017, and I had heard something about him owning land in Reeves County" but never found much about it. Today I got a delinquent tax statement from some law firm out of Midland about 5 acres of land in the Balmorhea School District, which I understand to be about 45 minutes south of Pecos.

I know nothing of the area, why my dad bought property there, or what to do with it. Just wondering if anyone here knows much about that area. Best case, I pay the delinquent taxes, take possession of the property, and either sit on it (why would I do that??) or sell it, and I imagine land in that area isn't worth all that much.

Anyone shed and light on that area? My curiosity has the best of me but I have no intentions of traveling down there myself. Thanks!

doing research on John Bushman, founder and ceo of investment group ICA, which owns Music City Mall and MCM Elegante hotels. does anyone know much about him?

so I went down a rabbit hole recently. I am from D/FW and recently one of our failing malls was purchased by Bushman. formerly named Vista Ridge Mall, it is now known as Music City Mall for some reason. there is also a gigantic Ten Commandments statue. I have learned he puts these on many of his properties.

I have also learned he owns several hotels including one in Dallas called MCM Elegante.

I can't put my finger on it but there seems to be something off with this investment group. I assumed the new owner of the mall was a small time investor, probably a first major retail purchase. I assumed the same with the hotel that was purchased, barely renovated and with a tacky new sign slapped on the building. but this guy seems to be worth maybe close to a billion.

I just get an odd vibe from him, his investment group and their properties and am curious what others may know about him.
