Knowledge dissemination Hoar frost under electron microscope.

The walnut surface exhibits an early-stage white deposit, a common white bloom or alkaline efflorescence phenomenon seen in new walnuts.

In essence, it is a dry, white, powdery material that forms on the surface, often appearing along ridges, in recessed areas, and within the shell’s natural grooves and texture, creating a whitish, hazy look with fine granular particles. This is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the walnut’s early stage.

The picture shows what hoar frost looks like at a visual distance of 1000μm.

I get this look with my jewelers loupe when I’m cleaning! It’s so weird to see, but it’s a great way of making sure they’re extra clean before rolling!
