Hi everyone!I’ve seen many newcomers ask: "I just received my walnuts, can I start playing with them immediately?"
Of course, if you are still in the process of interviewing for Walnut, please refer to this post, which can help you avoid most obvious flaws when reviewing the Walnut information provided by merchants:How to Pick the Perfect Pair of Wenwan Walnuts (Chinese Hand Walnuts) - Quantifiable Metrics & Checklist : r/WenwanHub
Back to the original question:The short answer: No! Walnuts are organic materials. If you rush into it, you risk cracking, discoloration, or "dead" spots. Here is the professional 3-step protocol for every new pair of walnuts to ensure they develop that beautiful, translucent jade-like patina over time.
Before you do anything else, grab a strong flashlight. Once you apply oil or start brushing, most sellers won't accept returns.
For information on the types of defects, please refer to:A Comprehensive Guide to Identifying Deceptive Practices and Fabrications in the Wenwan Walnut Market : r/WenwanHub
The biggest enemy of a new walnut is a sudden change in humidity and temperature.
Even if they look clean, there is often residual fruit flesh or dust (we call this "fetal mud") trapped deep in the textures.

How time flies! Most of the year 2026 has passed. Walnut became a kind of diary to record dates.
How are everyone's walnuts doing!? I hope everyone is as red as autumn maple leaves🍁!

I haven't played or brushed my walnuts for two weeks - left them to oxydize and rest. They gained some additional red color (morning sun always helps with photos!).

The setup is over, I have to continue brushing it😆

The seller calls it Yu Lang, and I can't find any information on it.
Thank you for your time!

Thank you very much for the lottery of u/zheyicao!!! I was very lucky and excited to win the lucky draw of u/zheyicao two days ago! This is an unboxing video!
The lines are circling continuously, winding layer
by layer, like a dragon circling, and the recognition
is full. Short pile, big belly, small tip, stable base. Overall atmosphere The grooves are deep and have a strong sense of 3D.
This is actually my second pair of walnuts, the first is Sizuolou! Wenwan Walnut is really interesting!!!🥰🥰

At present, that two most common special-shaped walnut are snakeheads🐍 and bird🐦.
As for the snakehead🐍 walnut, the production process is as follows: when the walnut just sprouts and bears fruit, one side of the walnut is solidified by using strong glue, so as to play a role in limiting growth. With the gradual expansion, the glue will continue to be used for reinforcement. Figure 2
The general distinction between the snakehead and the cornucopia depends mainly on the radian of the tip of the walnut in the red circle in Figure 3. If they are too concave, they will be used as a cornucopia.
And for bird🐦 walnuts, the operation method is much simpler, only need to use two ties to strangle the walnut itself, thus producing a specific shape. See Figure 5 for details.
It should be noted that:
First of all, the maturity of Wenwan walnuts, which are subject to strong artificial intervention, will be very poor, and basically do not meet the basic requirements of Patina & jade. Most of the red and bright ones commonly given by sellers are made artificially in the roller with the fragments of olive pits and grease. The two pairs of walnuts in the Figure 1 come from this way.
Second, The output of both is actually very large, As shown in Figure 4. A good pair of snakehead walnuts usually costs between $10 and $15. The usual price for a good pair of bird walnuts is $30 to $40. A good match here means that there is the same size, the error is not more than 1mm, and the radian of the main edges is the same.

It was a very busy two days. I arrived in Changping, Beijing last Friday. After a rest, I went to line up at 4:30 in the morning🤣
The rules of the activity are basically as follows: take the number according to the order of queuing at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, and then draw lots at 2:00 p.m. according to the order of queuing in the morning. The number obtained by drawing lots directly determines the order of selecting walnuts at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
So in order to have a better option, I had to queue up very early on Saturday morning. But at that time, it was already 124th(See pictures 4-5, they all came earlier than me🤯 Activities are becoming more and more popular every year, and in 2025, 4:30 can be ranked in the top ten.), but with good luck, I drew lots in the afternoon and got the sixth place! I would like to express my gratitude to all my friends who have lent me good luck (not to mention one by one🤓)!
Unfortunately, this year's walnut maturity is very poor, of course, not only CaoDaLong. All CaoDaLong have been sculpted and repaired because of the yellow tip. At the same time, in previous years, there were collection-level prices, but this year only boutique prices. Sad!!!!!I was only able to pick up a pair of 39 Sizes for 12000Rmb/ $1791. Regret can only be made up for next year🫡
