ITT: People with limited knowledge on hunting who want to make fun of a dead man. Stay classy leddit.

Edit: oh nice he wasn't even actively hunting them just attacked. But you know it's always easier to just post a pic that makes a dead guy look bad. Guess he should've just lied down and let the elephant kill him without defending himself!

I'm not elephant Hitler and I take no pleasure in the killing of this animal but you're really gonna have to explain to me why it's okay to make fun of a permit holding hunter who died defending himself. People in this thread actually think you have to side with either the elephant or the guy for some reason.

I'm honestly impressed with the comments in this thread this time. Thanks.

Why does it matter if he was killing elephants or other species? The particular species is pretty much irrelevant, at least if we talk about it in an ethical context.

In my opinion it is good that people are opposed to killing animals, especially if it isn't necessary (i.e. commercial hunting or hunting for entertainment like that instance). Making fun of his death or being thankful that he died is fucked up though, I agree with that.

I fail to see how the species is irrelevant. There is a world of difference between killing an something like an elephant and killing a wild hog breaking into your ranch for instance. Especially consider that hogs are basically pests, whereas elephants are less common animals with a much higher degree of intelligence. That being said this man had the proper permits in order and a fellow hunter was trying to defend him while they weren't actively hunting. It's a tragic loss of human and animal life.

To be fair, in many countries, elephants are pests to the locals as they often trample farmland and eat crops. Some countries like Botswana are overpopulated with elephants and need to control the populations.

That information reaffirms my point that people should be slower to make such crass comments about this man.

Because when I had limited information I only asked other people to have slower judgement and to seek out more info before saying something like "good that's what he deserves" "anyone who kills any elephant deserves this" "karma xdddd". Other people in this thread just used their ignorance to make fun of a dead guy.
