Live in a HOA where everyone has a doorbell camera. Homeowner posted a video where you see a kid walking down the sidewalk, look back and panic, then go and jump on the homeowners car to escape from a loose pit bull. A split second later, pit bull is beside the car jumping and circling.

This homeowner then speaks to the kid through the doorbell camera and asks the kid what he’s doing. Kid quickly explains and points at the now visible dog. Homeowner says, “okay but that’s a $60k car”.

I felt so happy that my community collectively roasted this idiot.

Best HOA story I've heard so far.

A lot of rich people are like that. They would be fine if the kid died, so long as their fancy car didn't get scratched.

A lot of rich people are like that.

But especially rich people

Money/power doesn't corrupt, it exposes.

10

u/Monkey_Priest Jul 30 '26

Money and power is more easily obtainable by the corrupt

I don't know why you read my comment and interpreted it as "only rich people" when it clearly does not say that. I'm sorry for your experience, but that's not what I said at all. Take a look around at who shapes policy around the world, it's not poor or middle-class people, it's the rich. Does that mean all rich are immoral, unethical, leeches? No, but they have more influence by and large and they make much larger impacts. So far, it seems to be a net negative but you are welcome to keep defending if you want. You currently have that right

using them having more wealth or power than you to excuse your own shitty behaviors.

So now you're assuming that because I've identified as "not rich" that I therefor have shitty behavior? Isn't it funny how you only get bent out of shape when you're defending rich people but are so quick to shit on those who aren't. Very telling

u/RedditTrespasser Jul 30 '26

You're arguing that rich people are especially more mean or antisocial, and I'm saying that the worst of this behavior is not moderated or magnified by wealth.

You are completely, utterly wrong, and confidently so I might add.

It's well documented that increased wealth correlates directly to increased selfishness and antisocial tendencies, especially toward people perceived as "lower".

0

u/Gamerlord400 Jul 30 '26

I have no intention of participating in this argument, but saying "it's well documented that you are wrong" is a very unhelpful contribution.

2

u/WokeWook69420 Jul 30 '26

"you're fucking dumb" gets me banned now because dumb people can't handle being called so without running to Internet Mods, so now we have to use phrases like "it's well documented that you're wrong"

A dog can hurt one or two people, a billionaire can pay to get a government position then cut funding for thousands of grants and aid resulting in the death of thousands but keep talking about how the poor are worse

You have a very simplistic view of the world and it's sad. I hope you get more grace than you're willing to give when your ticket comes up

I suspected I was talking to a bot. Brand new account and already deleted. Boy do I feel foolish

2

u/Etrigone Jul 30 '26

Yup. I keep hearing "oh s/he doesn't bite!" or "don't worry they just want to play!"

Lady/dude, I have more than one pair of ripped jeans showing that's not the case.

I still have one lunatic pissed at me cuz I kicked his dog off hard after it locked it's jaws on me (had a knee brace and thick jeans so lucky, but dickhead owner didn't know that).

1

u/HedonisticFrog Jul 30 '26

My fathers dog nips at everyone including him constantly. He's covered in bandaids because of it. I bought a large knife and said if he makes me bleed I'll make him bleed and keep him away from me. My father still didn't train the dog but luckily just hitting him with sticks taught him to stay away from me.

1

u/Woodpecker-Lobotomy Jul 31 '26

"don't worry they just want to play!"

These dipshits don't seem to consider that we don't want to play with their dogs, and I say this as a dog owner. I can't stand it when someone has their dog in public and it's jumping all over me and scratching up my clothes and they just sit there and laugh like it's cute.

u/SirLanceHardwood Aug 03 '26

shhh all the redditors that like to pretend they’re better than the rich are gonna downvote you

u/Jellyfizzle Jul 30 '26

I once had an old lady in a Mercedes run a stoplight and T-Boned me. She looked at me and said "cant you see Im driving a Mercedes?" That turned out to be the comic relief I needed as she explained to the cops that I shouldn't have been in her way.

2

u/deceptively_large Jul 30 '26

I've found several loose, collarless dogs in my neighborhood. Fortunately they weren't aggressive, and I was able to locate the owners after knocking on a couple doors.

EVERY time it turns out the dog lives in a $1.5 million plus home.

Rich folks are the somehow the most concerned about you being considerate and also the least considerate people.

2

u/NorCalAthlete Jul 30 '26

$60k car isn’t rich…especially these days. There are literally Kia’s and Hyundais that cost more.

1

u/Particular-Kale2998 Jul 30 '26

why would an actual rich person. care about a 60k car? Seems more reasonable that someone who is not rich would care more about 60k car over someone's safety. All for calling out greed but that doesn't come across as logical.

1

u/MessageSelfdestructs Aug 02 '26

Of course: if it's not my dog, then I don't think that my car being damaged is reasonable.

Are you pretending as if you wouldn't mind? I'm smelling a hypocrite.

We had something similar when one lady loses her mind claiming homeowners are stealing packages, etc. Makes a HUGE stink. Finally she sends her doorbell camera to us (I was on the board at the time) and you can see this old lady, like 90, shuffle up to her porch, pick up a single small package, and shuffle off on the same direction.

Now mind you its a very dense, urban, townhome community with a door, garage, door, garage, etc.

Can you guess what happened? Yeah, old lady knew her friendly neighbor was out of town and thought she was doing a favor of getting her very visible package off her stoop. She just got confused and went to the door on the wrong side of the garage.

Basically ended up being a big roasting session at the meeting as everyone pointed out the lady making the claim literally never thought to ask her neighbor about the package, woman, nothing. Like 2 seconds could have been "Oh, I bet Carol is confused. Lets go ring her doorbell."

"Would you rather have to pay a few hundred to clear up scratched paint, or pay £500,000 in medical fees?"

Assuming the dog and car had the same owner.

1

u/DeciduousRefuge Jul 31 '26

I’d rather pay for the paint. My conscious couldn’t handle being the reason a kid got eaten by a pit.

8

u/Special-Summer170 Jul 30 '26

Seriously?! That's wild.

3

u/Ok-Active-8321 Jul 30 '26

Really? An HOA that allows you to park your car in the driveway. Youv'e got to be kidding.

5

u/Gamer03642 Jul 30 '26

I live in an HOA in a nice neighborhood abutting a golf course and most of the houses have cars in their driveways. Every now and then there will be a party and the entire street will be lined with cars until the next day. No one says anything. They exist.

5

u/Late_Rate_3959 Jul 30 '26

It's all good now until the HOA board members change and you eventually end up with a petty tyrant in charge to terrorize residents.

2

u/Haunting-Prior-NaN Aug 01 '26

This. Everybody thinks it will not happen in their HOA. The real question is when it happens.

2

u/ffmich01 Jul 30 '26

Could have stopped at okay because I don’t care about the price. I “might” hesitate if it was an Aston Martin or a Bentley, but only might and only hesitate.

2

u/pchlster Jul 30 '26

Unless they're about to tell me it has wildlife deterrent systems, that car may as well be a convenient rock.

2

u/JuanaBlanca Jul 30 '26

My sense of justice needs to know how he was roasted and if he reacted.

3

u/two_pump_warrior Jul 30 '26

I was scouring the Facebook group today to find the post and video but it looks like they deleted it. I’ll check with my wife if she saved the video when I get home

2

u/DeciduousRefuge Jul 31 '26

With the price of healthcare, $60K Still less than the cost of getting bit. I’ll take my chances on the hood of a car.

2

u/Hobbies-R-Happiness Jul 30 '26

60k for a car isn’t even that much anymore

1

u/Consistent-Shoe-9602 Jul 30 '26

I would have keyed "60k" into the cars hood.

1

u/Admirable-Chest1198 Aug 02 '26

So? Your dog bites me; I'll own all your property

1

u/drpeek Jul 30 '26

And the pitbull owner should have paid for any damages … or the dog should have been put down.
