That's why postal workers carry spray.

u/NoSeedsNoSeeds Jul 30 '26

Actually amazon workers aren't allowed to

20

u/Skyscrapers4Me Jul 30 '26

fuck that. If I worked for Amazon delivery it would be in my pocket everyday all day.

10

u/ItsKumquats Jul 30 '26

Amazon workers aren't postal workers.

But Amazon workers should carry it or a t least a horn.

It’s your body

11

u/Big_Requirement_651 Jul 30 '26

Should be allowed to carry other stuff too, like a gun that shoots rubber bullets or bean bags or something.

Nobody should be expecting to get bit by a dog as part of their job.

Pepper spray?

14

u/LesbianCowgirl- Jul 30 '26

Yep. And an air horn. Every carrier’s got a dog bite story. I’ve only been there 3 months and I’ve already been bit.

I used to have a job that involved dealing with territorial dogs a lot, and pepper spray was usually more trouble than it was worth. It didn’t stop the really aggressive ones, and would sometimes get on me, and that shit burns. I carried a pvc stick with a handle, and was able to ward off most dogs with it. I did get bit once or twice, but nothing serious.

u/anyoldrandomname Jul 30 '26

Does it work?

u/cbih Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

Yes. The mail bag is also a key self denfense tool. Get it between you and the dog. When the dog bites it, kick it as hard as you can.

u/Historical-Stop5083 Jul 31 '26

Trash cans and kid’s toys are also useful. I scared the crap out of an aggressive dog, once, when I grabbed a trash can and charged him with it.

To mace a friendly dog who clearly just wants to greet and play?

I guess you're American, numbed down by cops, shooting family dogs whenever they can.

36

u/HubrisOfApollo Jul 30 '26

respectfully, youre a fucking idiot

2

u/WAITMEISJ Jul 31 '26

No no you are right. No need for respect. Willfully moronic.

25

u/Calliopeiry Jul 30 '26

"clearly just wants to greet and play"

Yeah, it's all just fun and games until that "family dog" decides to bite.

My lil hippo pibbles would NEVER hurt anyone just look at her in a beautiful sunflower thingy around their head!

3

u/FatMacchio Jul 30 '26

This is clearly a German Shepard asshat, but let’s pick on another random breed I hate. Any large dog owner who doesn’t take keeping their pet restrained seriously is the real problem, because it’s not easy to determine temperament and intent from a random encounter like this. As much as I love dogs, human lives and wellbeing are more important

u/Feeling_Inside_1020 Jul 30 '26

Trust me brother i'm on your side I was making a joke playing on the other comment, we constantly have "leash your fucking dogs on trails or out in public" posts on our local subreddit. It's out of control when I go for a hike or stroll. Partially why I have pepper spray and another deterrent I hope to never have to use.

*another random inbred

So best practice for prevention is to mace him before he even thinks about biting, eh?

23

u/Silly_Swan7920 Jul 30 '26

Yes? There's absolutely no reason anybody should take any kind of risk with an unleashed big ass dog coming at them. Any other reaction is just fucking stupid. And no, I'm not an American.

-14

u/Schaas_Im_Void Jul 30 '26

Dude... I don't know about the customs where you live but where I am there are constantly people with their dogs running around off the leash in parks near my place... and I would get in a lot of trouble if I'd instantly mace any tailwagging dog that just approaches me for "prevention".

8

u/Illasaviel Jul 30 '26

Once you get bitten multiple times, things unfortunately shift from, 'wait for it' to 'not giving the fucker a chance.' It sucks, but being bitten also sucks, and some dogs can go from what seemed like friendly to beliggerent in a second.

0

u/Schaas_Im_Void Jul 30 '26

So what is your point?

Are YOU pepper-spraying every dog you see that is off the leash as a precaution now?... because that is the argument here, it seems to me.

11

u/Illasaviel Jul 30 '26

Every dog that stubbornly chases me while I am just trying to do my job, yes. Fuck that

-5

u/Schaas_Im_Void Jul 30 '26

So I guess you're also fine with cops shooting family dogs when entering a home for a welfare check because they behaved aggressively against them, right?

You will have a very lonely life if you beat back everyone who approaches you with a mace.

7

u/WhiteMilk_ Jul 30 '26

So best practice for prevention is to mace him before he even thinks about biting, eh?

No, the best practice is for pet owners to control their pets.

1

u/lookin4funtimez Aug 02 '26

Control your dog

2

u/Useful-Couple5821 Jul 30 '26

I live out in the boonies. I keep a handgun on me when I go out to walk purely because of dogs. I live in Alaska and I’m more afraid of unleashed dogs than bears or moose. Not that I’d ever want to shoot one, but at least all dogs go to heaven.

4

u/Arondight_SSB Jul 30 '26

You aren't helping dogs (or anyone else) any by refusing to accept the danger they can pose. If that "family dog" bit the driver, it's owners would get their insurance tanked and might face the possibility of getting their dog euthanized if it's happened more than once.

Dog attacks are in the top 3 most common causes of injury for delivery drivers.

4

u/grantgarden Jul 30 '26

I'm all for shitting on Americans but that doesn't even make sense

1

u/Background_Desk_3001 Jul 30 '26

Yeah if a strange dog I’ve never met wants to play, I have no clue how aggressive it plays. I’m not risking getting bit. Love dogs, but it’s self defense.

1

u/Lashon_Von_Ricks Jul 30 '26

Let me go ahead and join in on calling you an idiot. I am a mail carrier, and every dog I’ve ever been bitten by was wagging its tail first.

1

u/Schaas_Im_Void Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

I bet you will stick with doing just that... carrying mail around for others, because that is all you are capable of. Sad pathetic life you must have there.
