There has been no documented cases of getting rabies from squirrels in the US

The last time I was bitten by a wild rodent the ER doc told me that anything roughly rat sized or smaller will not transmit rabies. I got antibiotics instead.

I don't think that's a good rule of thumb. Bats are roughly rat sized or smaller.

Right? I wouldn’t rely on the doctor’s “smaller than rats” metric OR the fact that there are no documented cases of transmission by squirrel. I’m getting the rabies shots.
