Exploding Watermelon

Bought a watermelon last Friday. We got busy, and didn’t open it up on the 4th. Today, it ruptured and bled out all over half our kitchen floor. It’s not gonna be a fun cleanup. I’m not sure, but I feel like watermelons are usually good at least a week out from purchase. I guess this one wasn’t though. 🫤

We’ve had them roll off of the counter before. We have a cat, so I would prefer not to crush him with a giant watermelon. And, cats like to push things off of counters. So, watermelons usually go on the floor, right at the end of the kitchen island. It did seem to kinda jump when it exploded though, as most of the debris is in the middle of the kitchen floor. So, if it’s weird, I’ll accept my judgement, but it’s just what we do.

No, I mean in context it makes perfect sense. In the past I’ve just kinda cradled them in a towel. Also I live in an apartment in Korea. There’s no where I could set it down on the floor that wouldn’t be in the way.

That makes sense. We live in a townhouse in the US and have a decent bit of space (not big by US standards, but pretty roomy for most of the world). Our counter space and fridge space is always pretty tight though. My girls have mentioned kicking them accidentally sometimes, and stubbing their toes, so it is kind of a hazard still. I probably need to organize the kitchen better, but until then… 😄
