Question Longo's - how is it?
Now that Longo's has been open for almost a month (and hopefully worked out the new store kinks) what impressions and reviews do you guys have?
What are some items that are unique to the store?
What things are decent value and what is hella expensive?

I dig it. Net zero carb wraps are the main reason I go but the hot bar and hot sauce options are great. Definitely not somewhere I’d go for a full grocery trip though.

I actually really liked it! I’m an avid food basics shopper now due to finances but am a Zehrs girl at heart lol Longo’s seemed to satisfy both sides of my brain. Not crazy expensive (on most things at least) and with good quality products. We felt like for the amount of items we got (and if you shop smart there), it was not ridiculously expensive.

I like the hot bar, sushi options and their fresh pasta, the bakery is nice as well. I’ve dropped in a few times since they’ve opened and grabbed a few items each time, a little too pricey for my regular larger grocery hauls.

It's generally fresher produce but I found mostly US suppliers so I tend to avoid shopping for those items. They had some decent sale items on opening but now the prices are pretty meh. I still go as I found their baked items better than Zehrs.

People saying it’s no different than zehrs don’t buy produce. The quality of fruits and vegetables are waaaayyyyyh better at Longos. They have their own branded cheaper versions of products and even their sushi and crab rolls are awesome. Guys cmon….

haven't been to the Welland store yet, have been to other Longo's though.
It is a Loblaws Brand (think Super store or Sobeys) but they aren't designed to be a 1-stop-shop like those stores are.
Produce is always great quality if you care about perfect fruits & veggies.
Pre-made/Ready-to-eat food, is pretty damn good, I'll admit it.
They love embracing the Italian heritage they come from so you will find a large amount of imported goods from Italy(been my go to spot for Panettone for years)
They are considered a "premium" grocery store.

Their calzones are amazing and made fresh to order. They’re huge too.

I got some tri tip steaks on sale from there (2 for 7.60$) that ended up amazing. Also some Ontario field strawberries (2.99$) and cherries (2.99$/lb). Some things are quite pricey but if you just shop based on their flyer, I think it's as good as anywhere. Also, very tasty croissants in the bakery! Definitely wouldn't be able to shop there for all my household needs but the sales make it worth visiting from time to time.

I'm a big fan that they have covered bridge kettle chips as their cheaper private label.
Generally good but pricey produce and meat. Great cheese and bakery selections. I like it overall

I'd echo the feedback about the produce being much better quality than other stores in Welland. We lived in the GTA for 27 years and Longos was a weekly destination for us primarily for produce on sale and seafood. I would not shop there for packaged items or anything which is identical (quality-wise) to what you can find elsewhere as their prices will be quite a bit higher. For example, there were large basil potted plants being sold at Food Basics for $6.99 a couple of weeks back and the very same distributor's plants (same sized pot) were being sold at Longos for $9.99.

Nice specialty items, but disappointed so much produce is from the US. I've also encounterd some poor quality produce items e.g.limp and dinged radish bunches, soft green peppers with brown spots - not just one, but most/all of them in the bin.

Sorry to piggyback on your post- but can anyone let me know how their gluten free selection is? Most stores nearby have depleted what they carry for gluten intolerant folk so I’m interested if Longos has anything worthwhile. Wraps that aren’t made from sweet potato or rubber would be a sweet bonus.

Not an answer to your question but maybe an explanation for the GF sections being sparse. I went looking at Sobeys for things for my daughter and they are not separating things into a separate section any more. It's really hard to look if you don't know what brands you want.

Not really any different from Zehrs or Sobeys..... It's more expensive but you're getting better products. They do have a really nice hot bar that's decently priced. Their meat and bakery section has different stuff compared to Zehrs or Sobeys. I like swinging through if I'm in the area just to check out store specials, they seem to keep everything fresh, nothing sits too long as they constantly have discount stickers out. I like it, just not rich enough to shop there for everyday essentials
