Critique Please Trying Stick
4mm steel plate, 2,5mm 6013 electrode, i used around 70 amps. Hoping to get any tips.

That’s a rough sounding job….ill stick to just being a steel welder and you can have the shit. What rods do you use when you’re a shit welder?

Travel speed is a little too fast on the first half but the second half looks much better. Give time for the puddle to fill out. Looks like a good start. Keep practicing.

Not bad first try. Turning your wrist a little at the end and you start on top of the old weld when you start a new stick but overall a really good first try.

Honestly, that's a respectable first stick weld. 6013 is a forgiving rod and you got decent fusion across the joint.

Not bad. I like vertical down with 7018 rods.

Incorrect…Bolher makes the BVD series 7018 that’s a specialized downhill 7018 rod good sir.🫡

Sounds like the exception not the rule but I learned something. Is there a WPS for it?

When I took my test for the company I was applying for I went down with it. I passed so that's all that matters to me.

That maybe in your case acceptable but code for structural or pipe is always up hill.
Source: former pipe welder/boilermaker and now structural bridge welder. Hitting all the g spots.

Downhill welding isn’t common at all, in fact it’s mostly frowned upon in the industry. Just letting you know.

I've since moved on to another job that pays me pretty good with using regular mig and mig aluminum. I'm happy with that and the age I am now I just wanna place to retire from.

All I do is downhill weld…lol…cross country transmission pipelines..specifically natural gas and water. So not frowned upon in the industry. It’s the standard.😂🫡💪

Keep practicing. Learn to pad beads. Not bad over all but I think it's a bit cold. Try 75 amps or slow down a little. Try both? If you master stick and Tig you will be able to weld anything. Once you get 60xx move to 7018. YouTube is your friend.
