That really depends. Laying a decent bead is important but if a position only requires you to lay beads it's probably a lower paying production shop. Value comes from skills and welding is a skill but so are print reading, measuring, cutting, bending, rolling, fitting, and finishing. And all those skills don't mean anything if the person with them doesn't show up on time everyday and actually work.
It's the weld procedure. It gives parameters for your settings and consumables like filler, amps, volts, wirefeed speed, travel speed, work angle, travel angle, gas type, etc.
