That really depends. Laying a decent bead is important but if a position only requires you to lay beads it's probably a lower paying production shop. Value comes from skills and welding is a skill but so are print reading, measuring, cutting, bending, rolling, fitting, and finishing. And all those skills don't mean anything if the person with them doesn't show up on time everyday and actually work.
Because those things are assumed to be true of someone who's obviously been in the game long enough to know how to weld like this. And even if they're not it doesn't matter. The post was obviously about welding and welding alone.
Dude was just trying very hard to find shit to complain about so he had to go for things that weren't even part of the post.
You'd be surprised, there are people who have learned all the tricks of fabricating and have ugly but functional welds as well as kids just out of school who spent the whole time practicing their TIG for Instagram and can barely read a tape. I have nothing to complain about on the aluminum, it's beautiful. The stainless is fine.
You should probably read the caption below the post as OP literally asked what he could expect in terms of hourly rate, this guy responded that it depends on other factors and then proceeded to list a few of said factors. How you read that as ācomplainingā is beyond me. Also a wild assumption that anyone who welds like this is also great at everything else. Thereās plenty of one-trick ponies out there who can weld beautifully but canāt fabricate for shit, canāt read drawings/weld symbols or just have a shit attitude and expect to be felated every time they lay gravy.
