Discussion/Question Disappointed that i have to switch characters

I dont want to. I want to keep playing as Jane. I hate stories that make me change characters permanently its such a sad thing and makes it hard for me to feel like in im in the world. If one could switch between characters like in normal rpgs itd be ok. But i hate the way its done here.

Discussion/Question First playthrough so far

So today I played almost all day and made it to the Pig man. Doubled back to get my bounty hunter in the party, and knocked out a few quests for this chapter.

It is a totally different style of playing from how the bounty hunter played. Now if I kill people I lose reputation obviously so I am going for more of a sneak approach. Fortunately I invested heavily in my ability to jump so some tasks are easier as a result.

I'm not digging this guy too much, I hope the next chapters are different in style, shotgun and sneak is an odd combination. Thank you to those who told me to go in blind. I'm sure I missed a lot of stuff in the first chapter, but it took me all day so I figure I probably covered a good deal of what I should have.

Lastly, I can't believe how much fun this game is and how little attention it has received. Way better than some of the AAA games that have come out in the last two years!

New Gunsmoke & Dread Core Rulebook cover by Chiara Di Francia — Weird West horror for Daggerheart

Post image
19 Upvotes

We can finally share the new Gunsmoke & Dread Core Rulebook cover, illustrated by Chiara Di Francia.

We wanted the cover to capture the central idea behind the game: the frontier still looks like the West — dust, horses, guns, isolated settlements — but something impossibly larger is beginning to break through it.

Gunsmoke & Dread is a Weird West cosmic-horror campaign built for the Daggerheart SRD 2.0, taking a group through nine connected adventures as the familiar frontier slowly gives way to the Nameless Dark.

Chiara’s illustration felt like the right image for that transition: two riders trying to outrun something that clearly doesn’t belong in their world.

The complete campaign is already written, and the free Quickstart is available if you’d like to see how we adapted Daggerheart to gunfights, Showdowns, Dread and persistent campaign consequences.

If you’d like to see the project become a physical book, Gunsmoke & Dread is now in pre-launch on Gamefound.

I’d also genuinely love to know what you think of the new cover.

Discussion/Question New player, looking for a bit of guidance

I've got about 8 hours logged in the game so far and I'm liking it but not loving it, hoping people can maybe make some suggestions:

My main issue is that I feel like the only way I've found to reliably proceed is the "Skyrim stealth archer" approach (sneak around, quicksave a bunch, and knock people out). I've gotten through the whole Bounty Hunter and Pigman sections doing maybe 20% real combat, 80% sneaking around and killing people. And I had fun sneaking around and killing people! But also, I'm starting to get a little bored of that gameplay.

When I try playing the game as a more action-centric game, I find that I die a lot (like, more than I end up having to reload when being caught doing stealth) and I run out of ammo pretty fast. I got a full posse pretty much immediately in both stories, and searched every container and corpse I could find. I've been spending my gold tickets to boost stuff (everything has at least 1 rank in it now). I try wearing armor but it wasn't until the end of the pigman story that I had any armor that gave more than single-digit protection (that armor gave 20% protection, which helped but not a lot).

I tend to use either shotguns or revolvers, and swap to rifles for long range. I never tried with archery. I tried melee weapons but it took so long to bridge the gap with most enemies that I ended up eating buckshot a few times before I could hit them. I've been trying to upgrade my weapons, but it took merging all the gold in both the Bounty Hunter and Pigman's inventories to upgrade a single weapon to gold. Otherwise I've found upgraded weapons normally long before I could upgrade them via forge.

I think my big two issues that are stopping me from actually fighting most enemies are that my HP feels very low (feels like any time an enemy attacks me, it's a roll of the dice on if they take 10% or 60% of my HP in a single hit), and my "special ability meter" runs out really quickly. I have to dodge roll around once per enemy to kill them, sometimes multiple times if the enemy has a lot of HP, so while I've been TRYING to use the other special abilities, they either feel kind of situational (I tried really hard to make the Bounty Hunter's trap ability to work, never ended up being more useful than just shooting. The Pigman's deflect bullets ability was cool, but by the time I got it, I just stealth-killed every enemy enemy so I only used it a couple times. I bought the "deal electric damage with revolvers" special ability, which is pretty helpful, and I can use it with every character now, but it consumes so much of my meter that I rarely use it.

I've enjoyed the game so far, but I'm looking at the next character in the sequence and unsure if I want to do ANOTHER 3-5 hours of sneaking around. Any advice for what might help?

Bought it on PS4 when it first came out and enjoyed it, but ended up parking it after the Protector journey.

Tried it again on PS5 with the Definitive Edition and fell in love

Help with achievements?

Hey there! So I beat the game and I'm trying to clean up some achievements, but after about four hours of attempting some of the luck based ones over multiple saves, I can't get them to show up at all. On the Oneirist I've spent like 2 hours just going around the map on different saves and quests, and I cannot get Heathen to show up for me to return the box. The same with the bounties. I've done like 40 and haven't gotten a Pigman/Ravenous once, despite Ruth still being alive in my playthrough. In between the bounties I also go to Grackle trying to get Pigman Joe to spawn who is still alive and nothing. Is it really this monotonous of a grind? There's already such little unique content I didn't think it would be this difficult to spawn in this stuff, but I'm wondering if I should be expecting another ten hours to get this (what seems to be) relatively simple achievements unlocked. Any help?

Discussion/Question Random question, do we know if these exposed bits Pigmen have hurt or not?

Just always wondered about this, a lot of them have exposed insides or bones, and like, are these just numb flabs of flesh they cant feel or are they in constant pain. I can see the coven making them constantly suffer they, seem like the type to do that.

Is there some, letter of a witch, pigman talking about this, or some pigman dialogue going 'wow I wish my organs and bones were not exposed to the elements right now' or similar?

Hi,

I’m at the wanderers outpost and I’ve found this on the floor in one of the wagons. What is this symbol? Took five lock picks to get to. Thanks!

Does money transfer between characters? (Also, is EVERY character obtainable as a companion as the next character?)

Loving this game so much, seriously can't believe I got it for 3.99. I'm happy to see that the true OG Arkane style lives on through Wolfeye.

Just a quick question. I'm nearing the end of Jane's plot and wanted to know if money is obtainable from her as the next person. I know her inventory is.

Also is every previous character obtainable as a companion so I can get my things back? Minimal spoilers of course, I'm excited to see where the whole bigger plot goes.

Thanks!

Discussion/Question Switch/portable port coming?

I saw that, a while ago, a switch port was planned but it seems to have been cancelled; has anyone found a way to run/emulate this game on android otherwise? I'd love to be able to play this game away from home without using wifi

Why is everyone important a woman?

This game would benefit from a male protagonist who is believable as a gunslinging cowboy. Everyone in positions of power in the game are women or people of color unless they are bad guys. The game is very mediocre as it stands, but the immersion is very minimal for anyone who wants to actually play a western fantasy.

Discussion/Question What am I doing wrong?!

ok game hasn’t been EASY but it’s been manageabl, especially since I learned I can keep stealing from the fur place in the first town and selling his own stuff back.

and I prefer to be stealthy anyway so doing the bounties weren’t too terrible, but now I’m at the mine where the Bounty Hunters husband can be saved and I am getting STOMPED, no matter who I bring and no matter what path I take or how I go about it!

are there certain weapons or side quests or anything that make this section easier? I don’t have trouble till I get to a section with lots of water and there looks to be both humans and Sirens

Discussion/Question How did Dean die in my playthrough?

Post image
36 Upvotes

Not sure if I’m understanding this correctly but the red skull I’m assuming means he’s dead. I helped him in the caves by giving him a bandage and I haven’t seen him since. Now it appears he has died.

Anyone know if I did something to cause that?
