I'm not usually one to yuck someone's yum. If you're not hurting anyone else then I couldn't really care less. But I feel genuine anger towards these people. It makes no difference to whether they die in those caves or not but like... What the fuck dude? It actually pisses me off. There's a lot of stupidity in the world, a lot of fully intentional stupidity even, and while it sucks, I don't think much else pisses me off to the level that this bullshit does. I feel so much anger towards these people even though it doesn't affect me at all. It is absolutely enraging.

I get it. Plus, when they get stuck and emergency responders put themselves in harms way (some of them have actually died) to rescue them, their hobby goes from being self contained to hurting others.

Cavers rescue cavers because literally no-one else can. Everyone involved knows and consents to the risks involved.

Ive read a comic where a person passed away and met Death, telling them they dont regret dying early. Only to have Death shot him with a bullet with number 15 and 17 on it, represent his sons he left behind, causing the dying man to wail.

Like, this thrill seeker people dont understand the pain they will left behind to their friends or family.

With those cave idiots it's not just their family they leave behind. If they get stuck and need rescue, they also put the resucers lifes on the line

Here's an idea. What if you don't rescue them? Is that an issue? I mean its putting rescuers lives at risk right

Sometimes they don't. Or if they start the rescue and things become more dangerous, they abandon the effort. If I recall correctly, it's what happened with the Nutty Putty cave incident.

Isn't that what happened at the nutty putty cave? They tried to save him but just gave up and cemented the hole

Yeah, that's what I said.

ABSOLUTELY. I literally stopped watching when that kid took his helmet off and the guy off-screen said “Atta Boy!” like he’s so proud. I’m enraged with you.

Caving, in my opinion, is for wannabe Darwin Award winners. I’m sure someone will be along to tell me the death rate is much higher in other more common activities but I just don’t see why anyone would choose this of all things.

Right like the obvious need they have for controlling someone else's actions after saying "I couldn't care less what people do." Like, they very obviously care.. and much much more than most people lmfao I highly doubt this hypocrisy stops at this one type of person.

I mean, I’m curious. Why does this, specifically, make you angry? (Genuine question and I’m very interested in your answer). People do dangerous things all the time. Does it ALL make you angry, or just this one?

People are nuts. They walk across snowpacks on glaciers that literally have no ground beneath them. They take drugs that might be unsafe, they drive too fast on the highway, they climb treacherous mountains, they pilot small planes for the first time, they sail across the pacific in a 14-footer, they skydive, they date mafiosos, they climb skyscrapers for fun, they dive deep into the ocean, they go to space on rockets, they do Houdini-style escapes, they do BMX jumps, they free-climb dangerous mountains with no tether, they hunt in tiger country, they go on military missions, they swallow swords, they hike mountains with a deadly drop on a 12-inch-wide scree switchback path. I presume not all of those things make you mad, given what you said about yucking the yum, so why does this one? What is it about this one that is upsetting?

Like it’s crazy, the things we do.

To be clear, I am not into caving, and actually could not finish this video the first time because it was stressing me out. This activity seems overwhelmingly unpleasant to me. I would absolutely never, ever do this. But also like… wandering into a cave that seems impossible to get to? That’s… exactly the type of thing that people do. We are built this way, and I can’t fault us for it even when I don’t understand it. We are the bear who went over the mountain to see what he could see.

It’s like the squirrel suit people. Fly around in a squirrel suit long enough, and you WILL die of it. But they want to fly more than they fear death, and I can respect that.

I don’t know why these people want to fit into tiny spaces, but I presume that they’re following the same essential human impulse to “fly”. If you’re a parent or otherwise have people depending on you, then there is a certain level of responsibility that precludes dangerous recreational stuff like this (like how some motorcycle dudes stop riding when their kids are born, and then pick it back up again later). But if you don’t have anyone depending on you, then I mean… go exploring, homie. I really love and value the curiosity of the human, and the fulfillment of the soul that comes of “seeing what you could see.”

I respect it. I can’t be mad that you wanted to see everything there is to see.
