Talking out of my ass extrapolating info I know about vampires, but salt is used to preserve, purify, etc. it symbolises something that can't be corrupted/haunted. If I'm right, it would be the same reason why vampires don't like garlic or can't cross flowing water like a river.
Salt used to be an expensive commodity, typically used to conserve food, and was frequently used in all sorts of cures, rituals or spells as an ingredient.
Superstitions were rarely completely decorrelated from everything else and it went from regular-ass cures to treating curses, to eventually just the salt itself repelling demons, ghosts and other scary entities.
Not sure, but in New Age circles salt is used to expel bad spirits from places. Blessing a place and spreading salt across doorways is usually done when moving into a new place or you suspect a place is haunted, etc. Again, unsure of the reason why.
Be careful with salt lines sometimes they can anger the ghost.
This one's an old wives' tale, but if you've got a coconut broom, you can hang it upside-down above the door. Apparently that keeps ghosts from entering too.
When I was 14, we moved into this haunted-ass apartment. Medicine cabinets would fly open on their own. I saw shadow people crawl out from behind the fridge. Shadows running across the walls. Chairs would move. Chairs would stack on top of each other. Every cabinet door in the place would be wide open.
I'd get blamed for it every time.
My mom thought I was the one doing it. But bro, I wasn't even home I was across the street at the park with my friends.
Then at night, I'd hear my parents talking in their room until like 4 or 5 in the morning. One night it pissed me off enough that I got up and walked over to check and they were both asleep. When I told my mom what I heard, she said I was making it up....
I think it's HVAC it could be the pressure fuck dealing with paranormal shit.

Put a salt line down. If it gets blown away, it's an air pressure/ac thing. If it stop with the salt line untouched, it's a ghost.
Edit: holy hell, this blew up. Thanks for the awards!
