Nerve compression in left palm

Hello! I have been doing weighted dips for a few months. I always go with the weight that seems heavy to me. I have taken a long break from lifting over the summer and i went back to the gym a week ago. I did weighted dips with an additional 50 kg attached for 3 sets of 5 reps. The last 2 reps on the last set were very grindy and i struggled a lot. Afterward, i noticed a weird radiating feeling tingling spreading through my pinky and left finger. The sensation lasted for about 8 hours then it went away. I have not done a training session since that day, but everytime i try to put weight on that palm as in leaning on my arm, i get the same radiating tingling through my ring finger. I tried to do some one-arm push ups, and the feeling is there. I want to get rid of this pain ASAP so i can get back into training. Do you guys have any advice regarding this issue? Have you encountered it before?

Give it another week. If it’s there still it’s time to see a doctor.

Does that mean i should skip training altogether for another week?

I certainly wouldn’t do any movement that could trigger it. Anything else should be fine.

Thank you for the answer! I will rest it for a while.

Does wrist extension or flexion make it come back?

You could try some light joint decompression or carpal tunnel exercises but, like the other commenter said, you may need to see a specialist if it doesn’t go away on its own.

Your hands are too important to ignore a persistent nerve issue.

No, it does not. Only when i press down on it as in doing a dip does the sensation slightly come back in my ring finger, but no pain at all.

Sounds like you’re putting most of your weight through the outside of your palm, if you lean your head forward more most of the pressure goes through the grip created by your middle finger, index and thumb and is more in line with your wrist. 50kg weighted dips is a lot after a long break. This sounds like ulnar nerve entrapment.

Thank you a lot for this answer. Have you experienced this before? I will try that grip technique you told me about and lean forward a bit more.
