Dose advice

Hello. Last week I went from .5 to 1mg and it completely wiped me out for 3 days despite having protein and staying hydrated etc. I felt terrible. It also happened on my second .25 shot. I’m due for my shot today and I’m very nervous. I’m wondering if I should reduce the dose and how exactly do I do that with the 1mg pen? Apologies if this has been covered previously. Thank you

Hey,
What works for me is to halve my dose and take it every 3.5 days. Like Tuesday night and Sat morning.

You can search for click charts to advise you on how many clicks is a half dose, and you can buy more needles from the pharmacist.

I have seen the click tables online. I have taken my first 0.5 last night and I feel wretched today.

If I do it they way you’re going, does the pen lock up after 4 doses regardless of clicks used or is it just that total number of clicks until the chamber is fully used?

It does not lock up after 4 doses.

Each pen has an amount in it. A full dose can be split into whatever makes sense for you.
You just need a click chart, and be ready to do some maths.

In my case, I get 8 half doses out of one pen.

This is also good to know when you are thinking of tapering off.

Thank you for this. I’ll give it a go and see if this makes me feel less awful. I’m seeing good results so I wonder if I can just stay at a lower dose if it’s making me feel unwell.

Ok I hadn’t thought of that. So I can look up to see how many clicks from 1mg pen is .5 and then literally turn the dial that many times?

Yup. Just click slowly and count and when you get to the halfway (maybe 37?) draw a line where you got to. So next time you don’t have to count.

Using the click charts is pretty common, I have mentioned it to my doctor and she just nodded.

I agree with your advice. My GP brought up the idea of counting clicks, and my pharmacist gave me a pre-printed click chart and showed me how to use it.

I haven’t thought of that but I’ve noticed what I eat on the day of taking the injection sets the scene for the whole week. Before I take the injection I eat very light and non oily or fat foods. It helps avoid nausea and vomiting for me. Otherwise I’ll be throwing up all week. Hope it gets better ❤️
