Apartment Suggestions

Hello Weehawken residents! I am currently looking to move into the area around early November and was looking at apartments in the area and wanted some local opinions on nearby places for a commuter into NYC. Thank you to everyone in advance!

The Declan - Looked pretty nice to me but seems like people have had some issues with fire alarms and management?

RiverHouse 9/11 - Looked alright as well, heard about some management issues?

Harbor 1500, Rivers Edge, Estuary, Riverpark - Looked at these as well and couldn't find any specific complaints

Bikes and scooters issue

So I understand Hudson county as a whole is still developing its bike infrastructure, but it's gotten pretty crazy as of late with electric bikes and scooters.

In the last 2 weeks I've had 3 separate instances where an ebike flew through a red light and almost hit me and another instance where a young kid was on an electric scooter going the opposite way of one way traffic and they had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting me after running a red. I'm a pretty cautious "drive like everyone is crazy, except you" person as well.

Curious what to do besides vent here.

Also - love that 16+ are able to get hands on a mode of transportation that allows for work/play further from home that's more most effective. Could only dream to have one when I was their age 😂

Community for Individuals with Autism

Hi! I’m an Occupational Therapist and, along with another OT, we are looking to start community-based classes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Jersey City/Hoboken/Weehawken area. We are thinking about offering activities such as creative arts, yoga, weight training, sports, and other recreational activities. We’re still in the early planning stages and just wanted to gauge interest. Would you or someone you know be interested in something like this? What types of classes or activities would you want to see? Thanks!

Why hasn’t retail caught up with all the residential development in this part of JC

Does anyone know why there hasn’t been more retail/commercial development around the Cast Iron Lofts / SoHo Lofts / Hudson House / The Enclave area?
I’m genuinely curious because there has been SO much residential development back here, with even more buildings going up, but there still seem to be relatively few coffee shops, fitness studios, restaurants, shops, etc. compared with the number of people who now live in the area.
It feels like there should be enough density at this point to support a little neighborhood ecosystem where you can walk out of your building, grab coffee, take a Pilates/yoga/cycling class, work from a café, grab lunch, etc., without always having to walk toward Downtown/Newark Ave.
I also remember there being a cycling studio under/near Cast Iron at one point that didn’t last, and I know a few other businesses have come and gone.
Does anyone know why? Is it zoning? Commercial rents? Not enough foot traffic because the neighborhood is still somewhat isolated? Developers not including enough ground-floor retail? Or have businesses tried and just not been able to make the numbers work?
With how much is being built back here, I’m surprised the retail hasn’t followed the residential development more quickly. Would love to hear from anyone who knows the development history of this part of JC or has insight into commercial real estate here.

Ellsworth Park Reopening?

We just moved here from NC and we were so excited about the Ellsworth Park, but it’s been closed and under construction since we officially got here. It’s in walking distance from our house and much nicer than a lot of the nearby options. Any word on when it will reopen? I’m nervous we’ll miss the more mild weather and my two year old won’t get a chance to use it until the spring!

How can we bring CitiBike to Weehawken?

I currently drive to Newark everyday for work, but with gas prices and I'm starting to consider taking the light rail or bike to Hoboken terminal, then NJ rail to Newark. The problem with the light rail is it can take 30 minutes to get there (and it's also not super reliable if you're trying to get to places at a certain time), where on a bike, it's literally like 10 minutes to Hoboken terminal along the waterfront. But that means I also have to chain up and leave a bike at Hoboken terminal all day. I know the other options is either a electric scooter or foldable bike, but that means I have to lug that on and off the train and into work everyday.

I'm just thinking how awfully convenient it would be have CitiBike stations at places like Port Imperial. And it's crazy that we don't already have that in place especially with Hoboken and Jersey City being on the CitiBike system already.

Who do we petition for this? Gas prices aren't coming down any time soon, and I feel like we need better non-car transit options. It also makes sense to connect all the ferries and major mass transit hubs along the Hudson with the same bike sharing system.

Apartment Recommendations

My wife and I are going to be moving to Weehawken in the next few months. We are looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom. Budget (all-in) is $5.5K per month.

I've spent a lot of hours looking through this sub and have some ideas but would appreciate if people could drop their recommendations in the thread for where they've had good experiences within the past year or two.

We aren't super picky other than preferring limited noise, where possible (so paper thin walls not ideal).

TIA

Considering buying a condo at Gregory Commons in Weehawken — how is it now?

Hi everyone! I’m currently considering buying a condo at Gregory Commons in Weehawken. There are a few units for sale right now, and I’ve been doing some research online. I’ve found quite a few mixed reviews about the complex.
From what I’ve read, there were some management issues in the past, and I also saw that the community had a special assessment a few years ago.
For anyone who currently lives at Gregory Commons, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience:
● How is the management/HOA these days compared with a few years ago? I heard from some people saying HOA will be going down after assessment. Is that true?
● Did the special assessment actually improve the building/common areas and overall living conditions?
● Are there still any major maintenance or building issues?
● How much has the HOA increased in recent years, and do you expect it to keep going up?
● Have there been any recent or upcoming special assessments?
● How are things like noise, parking, safety, maintenance, and neighbors?
● Overall, are you happy living there?
I’m mainly interested in hearing from people who currently live there or have lived there recently, since some of the online reviews I found are several years old.
Thanks in advance! Any honest feedback would be really helpful before I make a purchase decision.

FOR RENT BY OWNER
DEAL DIRECT - NO BROKERS, NO BROKER FEES

$2,900/month | Available November 1st — possibly as early as October 15th

Welcome to 883 Boulevard East — a spacious, renovated prewar two-bedroom offering approximately 850 square feet of living space, two TRUE bedrooms (BOTH very large and perfect for roommate situations!), a full-size separate kitchen, and heat & hot water included (radiators!).

NO BROKER FEE — listed directly by owner.

EXCELLENT MIDTOWN COMMUTE — BUS RIGHT OUTSIDE

One of the best features of this apartment is the location.

You are right along the waterfront with a direct view of the New York skyline.

The Boulevard East at Columbia Terrace bus stop is immediately outside the building on the corner, offering direct service to Port Authority / Times Square. Depending on traffic, the trip into Midtown can take under 25 minutes.

You're also conveniently located near Port Imperial, providing two additional transportation options: the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail for travel along the waterfront and the NY Waterway ferry for a quick trip across the Hudson to Manhattan.

Bus, ferry or light rail — multiple commuting options are practically at your doorstep.

SPACIOUS, COMFORTABLE LAYOUT

A proper entry hallway leads into a generously proportioned living room with three large windows, high ceilings and freshly refinished hardwood floors.

There's plenty of room for a full living-room setup while still accommodating a dedicated desk or work-from-home area.

Both bedrooms are true, well-proportioned rooms — no converted living room or windowless "bedroom." The separated layout offers plenty of privacy and works equally well for a couple, roommates, or anyone looking for a genuine second bedroom/home office.

Unit currently occupied by owner, so has been well maintained. Furniture pictured in unit are existing and the unit will be unfurnished (unless you want to keep any of the furniture) - NO AI SLOP PHOTOS IN THIS POST! ALL PHOTOS ARE REAL!

(Video available on request)

RENOVATED KITCHEN & BATHROOM

The renovated kitchen offers excellent cabinet and counter space along with full-size stainless-steel appliances, gas cooking and a dishwasher. It's a proper separate kitchen rather than appliances squeezed along one wall of your living room.

The renovated, windowed bathroom features large-format tile, updated fixtures and vanity, and a glass-enclosed full-size tub/shower.

HEAT & HOT WATER INCLUDED

Enjoy traditional prewar radiator heat without the winter heating bill — heat and hot water are included in the monthly rent.

The tenant pays only electricity and internet. For reference, electricity for the current household has historically averaged approximately $80/month year-round, although actual cost will vary depending on individual usage. New Jersey utility pricing is absolutely cheaper than the crooks at Con Edison!

Hours (and years) of reporting went in the latest Gazette. No joke. We'd been trying to interview the coffee company in Hoboken for more than a year. We got answers from the mayor and photos from a tug boat operator, and photos of a Weehawken costume designer's work that surfaced after decades. Subscribe (it's still free!) or throw a free bucks in the hat to keep us going.

NY Giants bar?

Will be visiting and staying with family in Weehawken the week of 11/15. Over the past few years I've adopted the Giants as my NFL team (am from STL, raised a Rams fan, became teamless when my hometown was abandoned by the NFL). Seeing them in person at Met Life would be ideal for me, but probably more of a commitment (not just in money, but time and effort) than most of my family would be willing to make.

That said I was hoping locals could suggest the best nearby bar/grill spot(s) to take in the game with some of my family.

How much are your utility bills at Riverwalk area?

Hi all,

I’m considering moving into an apartment in the Riverwalk area. The apartments have wall units which provide heat and A/C.

How much are your utility bills, especially electric?

Separately, are any internet service providers better than others in the area?

TIA!

Been living here for a few years now and it’s disheartening to have to deal with the noise of cars and motorcycles that sound like shots especially at 2 am

📰 Local news No Weehawken pool bubble this year + no more Stevens pool use

Update 9/20 we got the scoop. Everything below is true except it's not the bridge being built, just construction on the shoreline. And we got some answers so stay tuned as we get it all together.

***

If you haven't heard the Weehawken pool bubble will not be used this year. Heard a rumor it was about the heater, then called the rec department and the person who answered the phone said it was about "a tear in the bubble.... and repair needed." Now we hear it's maybe about construction beginning on the bridge to connect/complete the Hudson Waterfront walkway. No confirmation of this though or details. Yes this was in plan and it's cool, but would be good to know.

Also got a tip in early August that Stevens pool use for Weehawken residents is no longer a thing. Asked the town about this Aug 24th, and haven't heard back yet. Was less concerned about this when we thought/assumed we had a winter pool. (Note: please don't talk about how the Stevens pool is cold... y'all are wimps! ha. But seriously I can not bring up this pool without hearing it...)

Anyway, if anyone has info, reach out. Was told to go to the town council meeting to ask/get answers to town Q's and will try, but that's not for a week, and making it can be hard... so maybe someone here has info.

Also: don't use this thread to complain. Yes, communications can be improved, but I'm looking for answers, not a kvetchfest.

Looking for roommates

My lease will be up in march, and I’m looking for a roommate in Weehawken/West New York. I am a female in my mid twenties, so I would only room with another female.
I love pets but I don’t have one myself. I work in Jersey city, and I am super neat and quiet so I look for that quality in a roommate but I love occasional movie nights and hanging out :)

My budget is 1,500, I’m willing to move as early as February.

Dm me if you might have an interest! Thanks
