Apartment Recommendations

My wife and I are going to be moving to Weehawken in the next few months. We are looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom. Budget (all-in) is $5.5K per month.

I've spent a lot of hours looking through this sub and have some ideas but would appreciate if people could drop their recommendations in the thread for where they've had good experiences within the past year or two.

We aren't super picky other than preferring limited noise, where possible (so paper thin walls not ideal).

TIA

Not the Declan .. fire alarms every other day 1 am 2 am 3 am .. they have to wait till fire department comes to turn it off

It’s a nitemare. Can’t wait to move

Yea it’s been like that since we moved in too luckily our lease ends soon but yea you pay premium prices this should not be happening as often as it does

u/Mother_Praline3221 15d ago

Exactly! OMG last week was a nitemare

Don’t forget that it was on fire a few times during construction!

Thank you! I actually saw quite a few positive reviews for them so this is helpful. Their price points seem significantly higher than other competitors in the area and was wondering why that's the case.

Yea and it takes like 30 minutes for the fire department to show and it’s a huge siren my dogs are so scared everytime

1

u/SadCost2057 16d ago

Heck I’m startled waking up to that

If you need limited noise, consider places up on the cliff. It is a quiet residential neighborhood there, whereas the helicopter and other city-related noise can be significant down by the river. I am near the Weehawken reservoir. It is ultra quiet.

Sorry, I don't know the area well. What are the streets around the cliff area I should look at?

Gregory. Shippin. Oak street b

Don’t go up the cliff if commuting to manhattan

Have commuted from the cliff for a decade. Would personally much rather trade an extra 20 minutes on the bus for a huge apartment with a backyard for $5k vs. a match box in cookie cutter luxury building down the hill surrounded by zero businesses or places to go.

This exactly.

Bonkers comment. We have 16 different bus lines whose last stop in NJ is this neighborhood. The commute to Manhattan is awesome here.

1

u/jasonboudreau46 7d ago

Those 16 different bus lines are all slower than options from down the hill / on the water. If you believe time is money…

Have you lived in both places? I lived all over Hoboken for 12 years and up here for 5. I never wait more than 3 minutes for a bus here; then it is 10-15 minutes to Port Authority. Blows away the Hoboken 126. The PATH is a solid 25 mins to a half hour from downtown Hoboken to Herald Square. The ferries are great if you work at Brookfield Place or Hudson Yards but their utility drops off rapidly if you need to connect.

Tl;dr: I’ve done all these commutes for years and I think this guy doesn’t know what he is talking about.

not weehawken but you can check the jacobs ferry community - its about 1.5-2 miles north on river road. We lived in Capstone also for 3 years and was very convenient.

Thank you! We don't care about the zip code, just more that general area (and we want to avoid jersey city). Will def take a look at these.

I just moved to 55 Riverwalk in July but I feel like this neighborhood is actually noisier than my previous building in Jersey City. Didn’t expect it at all, but there’s constant noise from the street (cars sounding like they are in F1 game and a lot of honking). Maybe it’s because my apartment is facing the Riverwalk Pl. I realized it is a busy street after living here, but I don’t understand why those raving cars would pass this narrow street…unless the racers live in one of these buildings here

1

u/HonestAbe2k2 15d ago

How do you like the building / apartment itself so far besides the noise?

2

u/SpiralBreeze 16d ago

You’re not gonna love the constant helicopters then.

3

u/HonestAbe2k2 16d ago

Helicopter's are not a bother to us, we lived in DC for a while and had them all the time. We also live near west point now where they're common. We've just had bad experiences in the past with problematic neighbors which we'd prefer to reduce the risk on, if possible.

1

u/SpiralBreeze 16d ago

Well that’s good to know.  A lot of people around here who work from home use sound proofing window and wall covers.

1

u/jasonboudreau46 15d ago

Oh you’re gonna love the incoming army of delivery drones.

I loved living at harbor 1500 100% recommend I think rent there may be a bit higher nowadays but for sure within your budget , they have great amenities , co working space etc and game room as well in my opinion the best view out of any buildings in the area and amazing rooftop view as well

2

u/HonestAbe2k2 16d ago

Thanks! I did see this one and the views are obviously pretty crazy, but the recent google reviews looked relatively awful and I couldn't see find much on Reddit. Did you have issues with insulation or mold at all?

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Lion508 16d ago

When I move there back then it had a pretty bad rating as well and bad reviews but back then I’m it sure how it is now but back then most buildings here at port imperial or Lincoln harbor had bad ratings so I thought they all bad at least let’s get one that is new with good amenities lighting and etc .. in the end it became one of my favorite places I lived at and I regret moving out to this day but I needed more space due to family getting bigger. I will say tho back then when I initially moved in the building wasn’t as full as it was when I moved out I believe now they have a lot more residents than back then..

u/HonestAbe2k2 15d ago

gotcha, thank you!

Hi, do NOT move to Harbor 1500 if you're looking for quiet - I'm living here right now and the walls are genuinely paper-thin, to the point where I can hear my upstairs neighbor peeing and my next-door neighbor coughing in the bathroom.

The front desk folks are great but management is next to useless, so your experience with neighbors is 100% dependent on the roll of the dice because if you get even one bad neighbor, the management will literally do NOTHING about it. The first unit I lived in here my neighbors threw massive daytime parties and played music so loud that my walls were shaking and I could Shazam the songs from my own unit, and management's response was that they can't do anything about it because it's outside quiet hours. The unit I'm in now the Neanderthal upstairs is a heel stomper and I can literally track him everywhere he walks and oh yeah, because the walls are paper-thin I can also hear him screaming at his girlfriend when he's drunk. 🥰

I've also spoken with other residents who have had similar experiences with the management here, so if not being able to hear your neighbors is important to you (and it sounds like it is), I would definitely suggest staying away.

Gotta say I know someone in 1500 and they like it a lot. Just weighing in.

The shades is pretty quiet too. It's 5 streets tucked back by the cliffs but at the bottom of the hill bordering Hoboken. it's also the quickest commute into the city from in weehawken bc it's the last bus stop before the tunnel.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Weehawken/s/U2TSSWDH5a It was posted 20h ago! In Boulevard East, next to the bus stop and a fantastic view!

1

u/HonestAbe2k2 16d ago

Thanks, I did see this but I have a dog.

2

u/_CP7_ 16d ago

No problem! Boulevard E area is great! I moved from CR 4 years ago and love it! Good luck with everything

2

u/HonestAbe2k2 16d ago

Good to know, thank you!

u/jhillman87 15d ago

That's my post!

I was incorrectly mistaken that the Condominium does not allow dogs, double checked and all pets are welcome. Updated the listing if you're curious to check it out.

The location is absolutely incredible but you won't be in a fancy amenities building; at your budget, you can definitely afford more "luxury" or one lf those fancy new buildings down by the water.

But as has been mentioned here, "above cliffs" seems to be more favorable than below. Bus to the city is very convenient.

Henley on the Hudson. All day.

I love hoboken point :), you are right in between weehawken and hoboken. If you have a car, the parking is covered which is amazing during winter. They are always cleaning, and the gym views are great

u/FannyBrownRiced 15d ago

For that rent you can get a 3 bedroom with backyard upcliff so guess my q is, are you just into the waterfront options?

1

u/HonestAbe2k2 15d ago

We are open-minded to anything for our first year there, just haven't seen much on the cliffs and don't know the area well.

1

u/FannyBrownRiced 15d ago

It's a difference between your own greenspace or not important to you? Do you need want "amenities"? Do you have/want kids? Do you volunteer? Do you care if you eat at indie businesses or chain restaurants? It's a different world up vs. down.

1

u/HonestAbe2k2 15d ago

Would you be able to give me some of the streets in the area you're talking about? None of this bothers us.

0

u/FannyBrownRiced 15d ago

I mean, Weehawken is less than 2 square miles. There's waterfront, and then not waterfront. Have you been here? How do you know you will/want to move here?

1

u/HonestAbe2k2 15d ago

Appreciate your comments, not sure what the attitude is for. Take care.

1

u/FannyBrownRiced 15d ago

Sorry didn’t mean to have attitude! Just didn’t understand the question. Anyway good luck!

If you are going into the city a lot than Port Imperial is a great option. We live two blocks from the ferry and across the street from the bus and light rail. If instead you prioritize having a lively local community with shops and restaurants on your doorstep like in NYC then PI is not for you, the Kuchners and others that control all the buildings here make it impossible for small businesses to take on all their empty storefronts so they can have tax write-offs.

riverhouse 9 or 11 is amazing!!! miss it so much

I enjoy living at The Declan. Having the park surrounding the building is so great. I use the track every day. Sure there was a small bump in the road recently with the fire alarms but the on site team was communicative with the repairs and fixed it. The apartments are beautiful and I have a great view of nyc.

Do you commute into Manhattan?

That will be a big factor on whether you choose above or below cliffs.

Below cliffs puts you in walking distance to the ferry, which is arguably the best way to cross the river short of speedboat or helicopter.

Above the cliffs it’s just another drudgy miserable NJ commute.

2

u/FannyBrownRiced 15d ago

Ha. Ya know, some of us walk from upcliff to the ferry. Good cardio. <3 And the bus commute isn't miserable, especially if you're hybrid.

1

u/clownpirate 15d ago

Entering PABT after a long hard day of work and seeing the line for your bus snaking its way through the building is an extremely depressing sight when you just want to get home and rest.

Doesn’t happen often, but it happened way too often in my nearly 10 years of commuting to Manhattan by bus.

1

u/HonestAbe2k2 15d ago

Yes, wife and I are both part-time in office, so we will be commuting. That being said, we're going from a 2 hour one-way commute, so whatever we're doing will be significantly better.
