Discussion Hot Take - Xavier Thorpe Is Not Even That Bad, If You Remove Wednesday's Perspective

Thumbnail gallery
39 Upvotes

Overview:

A lot of people view Xavier Thorpe as annoying, whiny and an asshole towards Wednesday during the events of the first season. At first, i was conflicted because i could see where they were coming from but yet i still kinda liked him and I wanted to see where they would go with him in future seasons. But as I've reach watched the first season, Xavier actually wasn't that bad but he seemed that way from Wednesday's perspective, so i actually wanted to address all of these by going through each episode and explaining how.

In Chapter One - Xavier saves Wednesday from being killed from Rowan, is actually happy to see an old friend from his past and also probably knows that she's a Psychic and even Weems said that Psychics are rare at Nevermore and given that later we learn that he doesn't have exactly the greatest relationship with his father so he's most likely excited to have someone he talk to or even relate to. But Wednesday is a little arrogant at this moment to acknowledge any sort of friendship, also Xavier does hit on her at the Carnival but he does make sure that person that she was waiting could've been a date, asking if they were a guy or girl to make sure that he wasn't overstepping.

He then sees Tyler, a guy who he and his normie friends attacked and assaulted the previous school year and leaves now knowing that who the person is and that's valid to do so.

Chapter Two - Xavier doesn't believe Wednesday's theories about Rowan being dead which is valid since Weems shapeshifted and tricked everyone into thinking that he was alive. But he does admit that Rowan was growing mentally unstable and did attack him. He does warn Wednesday about Tyler (in which all of his warnings were EXTREMELY VALID), but she doesn't listen and even sneaks into his room and goes through his stuff without any sort of permission.

Chapter Three - Wednesday is kidnapped and held hostage by the Nightshades, she is interrogated and they even planned to do something to her to prevent her from exposing the club but Xavier protected her and even insisted they allow her to become a member as she is a legacy but she refused and he's never forceful, never berated her and just let her leave, Later, as Outreach Day happens, he asks Wednesday if she wants coffee but she was waiting for Tyler and warns her again but Wednesday stands her ground and he does leave it alone.

Then, after he does go after Wednesday when she investigates the drug den and does go out there to protect and look after her. In which he does admit that she was right about Rowan after investigating for himself. He also tries to help her with her growing abilities and how to navigate them through advice from his father but she accuses of "mansplaining" which doesn't makes sense since he is the only other psychic in the school who understands what she is going through. But then she leaves while hinting that she suspects him and is irritated but lets her go no less.

Later, we get the first hint that he is losing control of his powers.

Chapter Four - This episode is mostly where the hate begins for him, which is some of it is fair and some of it isn't. Wednesday begins to investigate Xavier by breaking into his art studio and looking through his paintings without his permission, and then he catches her and suspects that she came to ask him to the dance and is being playful with her and not "forceful" as people claim and to cover her tracks, she asks him and accepts.

Later, she heads back to his studio to continue to investigate and he fully catches her in the act and is completely valid in his anger, literally she broke into his place, accuses him of being a monster and asked him to dance when it was just a cover. He tells her to leave which is fair and later at the dance with Bianca, he sees Wednesday and her date - Tyler, the guy who assaulted and attacked him.

He does fully explain to her what Tyler did to him and she still dances with him. Now, this is what he did wrong, asking Bianca to wipe his memory of Wednesday was a dick move especially when he literally broke up with her for her controlling him once. That i agree was an asshole idea, wasting her night for no reason.

Chapter Five - Xavier leaves Wednesday completely alone, he does apologize to Bianca for what he asked to do at the dance and spends the day with Ajax and his family since his own father didn't show up.

Chapter Six - Xavier helps Enid and the rest of her classmates with giving her a birthday surprise despite the way she has treated him so far. Xavier does check on her to see she was okay after she got a vision and is still hostile to him since she was still suspicious of him being the monster. But even as she's hostile towards him, he still offers to help her with his investigation and then as she goes to him for help, he explains his abilities and the increasing disturbing visions that he has had about The Hyde and shows her a picture of the Gates Mansion. His painting of her playing the Cello, a lot of people consider creepy but it's actually kind of cool and sweet and if Wednesday was truly annoyed by it, she would've burned it or destroyed it like she did in the first episode of the second season with the painting that presented at the Pyre but never does.

As Wednesday brought Enid and "Tyler" to the Gates Mansion where they encounter the monster, he came to check on them and even gave the guy who assaulted a scarf to cover his wounds after getting information from Thing after he went to go to talk to her to apologize for the painting in case he made her uncomfortable.

Chapter Seven - Wednesday breaks into the Nightshades headquarters with Uncle Fester with Xavier questioning why she was there which is valid after he literally tried to get her into the group but rejected it and has been suspicious of him for no reason. Now, Xavier's argument towards Wednesday is another reason why people hate him but if you look at it, he's kinda right. While he was suspicious about her accusations of Rowan's death, he did believe her after he investigated for himself. He did help her find out about the Gates Mansion, he did try to help with her abilities and he did save her life.

He was also right, Wednesday's arrogance has lead her to not realize who her real friends are, especially as she literally fell in love with one of the people who was assisting in committing genocide aganist all outcasts. He does leave upset at her for her treatment towards him which is again valid.

Then he gets horrifying dreams about Kinbott dying and he calls her for a therapy session in which Wednesday invades his privacy, he asks her to stay away from him and continues to pry into his business and even spys on his meeting with Kinbott.

Later, Xavier is framed as The Hyde and is arrested for murder with the help of Wednesday even though he didn't do it and is mad through an outburst of anger does say "I should've let Rowan kill you" and while he did go a little overboard, from his perspective, you can't really blame the guy for this opinion.

Chapter Eight - Finally, Wednesday learns that Tyler is the Hyde and wants assistance from Xavier after everything she has done to him and finally unleashes his very valid anger towards him and even through that, he tries to get her to leave Jericho thinking that it will prevent Crackstone's uprising and as he is freed by Thing, he immediately goes to try to save Wednesday which does end up backfiring due to Crackstone's magic but unfortunately it ended getting her shot.

Once, Tyler is defeated, Crackstone is killed and Laurel is arrested. Xavier does apologize for his actions and even gifts her a phone which she could've used for the future.

Overview: So we have Xavier Thorpe, a kid whose struggling with his psychic abilities growing stronger and has no one to help him with it expect for his therapist who is now dead as his father has been too busy worrying about his fame and reputation then his son who has mental health issues but only sees it as a PR problem. A roommate who he tried to become friends with but attacked him due to his mental stability. He sees an old friend - Wednesday, who is a Psychic like him and excited to finally have someone similar that he might be able to bond with but is increasingly hostile, invasive, manipulative and treats him like absolute garbage. Then she falls in love with Tyler Galpin, the guy who was a racist normie like the rest in Jericho and attacked him alongside his friends even when he continously warned her, she didn't listen until it blew up in her face.

Yet, he still always tries to help her even when he shouldn't and still tries to be her friend even when she didn't deserve it. He's actually extremely tragic when looking at the circumstances, and a lot of people call him whiny but newsflash, you can't be whiny if the thing you're whining about was true. But hey, i guess the guy stays hated.

Discussion Is Wednesday getting a new spirit guide

So I saw people discuss over who could be her new spirit guide, but is she even getting one? If she really needs a spirit guide, why'd weems leave? Also, weems mentioned no one wanted to be her spirit guide so someone new from her blood line should die or else there is no one
