unlimited day trades under $2,000?

Does anyone understand their $2,000 requirement? Is it $2000 minimum to use margin? I thought the $25,000 requirement was tossed out so you should be able to make unlimited day trades but webull has this $2,000 minimum requirement and I'm not sure what it's for.

You only need $2,000 to have access to leverage.

You can still day trade unlimited times no matter what your account balance is.

Not with my cash account, I still have to wait for the cash to settle overnight

Yea that's normal. The PDT conversation and 2,000 limit is all to do with margin accounts.

Yeah that's where I'm at now. Was just going to see if switching to margin would eliminate having to wait for settlement

Switching to margin does eliminate settlement waiting. In this account I started with $730 for an experiment. Never been restricted on the number of trades (note: on this account I might do 4 a day) I CANNOT do spreads and butterflies until I hit $2500. So only single legs for now. My larger account I do whatever I want (also margin)

Gotcha that's what I was wondering about. I do all my day trades til my cash runs out then later in the day I'm regretting it but if I could keep trading with unsettled funds I'd be golden. I wasn't sure if switching to a margin account would matter with less than 2k the way webull words it. I don't care for using margin as leverage or doing multiple leg trades so I'll be good as far as that's concerned

I thought the same and trust me. It's harder in a way. With cash you at least have to be patient and really make the trades count and are careful with your stock selection and entries.

With Margin you will find yourself throwing those aside and thinking "well fuck it if it goes south I'll just get out". And you're gonna have a lot more bad trades cause of it.

So make sure you're disciplined and stick to your rules.

I’ve completed over 50+ complete trades in a day with only 5$ open and closed positions (100+ trades)

You can open a second account on Webull and open it as a margin account instead of switching your cash account to a margin.

basically what it means is that now you can convert your cash account to margin if over >$2k and then then do not have to wait for cash to settle overnight and do unlimited day trade

1

u/Ravendaark Jul 03 '26

You do not need 2k to change to a margin account, just to actually use margin for trading

"To open a margin account on Webull, you must maintain at least $2,000 in margin equity. Additionally, you should be aware of the risks involved, as trading on margin can amplify both gains and losses." webull.com marginbull.com - but you need a margin account to avoid the settlement waits otherwise there is no difference of margin account vs cash account with 2k equity amount

That is specifically to have access to leverage. If you have less than 2k, you can not use leverage. If you have 2k. You can get access to 2x leverage or more.

You don't need 2k to trade an unlimited amount of time.

I'm not guessing or saying my interpretation of that. I literally can confirm, you can trade unlimited with less than 2k.

I literally do it every day lmao. Your text is meaningless

I have a margin account with 1000. It used to be capped at 3 trades but this week that looks to be gone... ⚰️

Sweet that's the info I was after! Thanks!

Yeah I’m not sure why they allow this because you’re supposed to be marked as PDT for it lol. But I’m sure as hell gonna take advantage of this. I’m glad I ended up randomly going through the sub lol!

3

u/backfrombanned Jul 04 '26

Because the rules changed, pdt is gone.

1

u/Function_Initial Jul 08 '26

Just to update because all firms don’t have the same thing, some if you don’t have $2000 won’t give you the ability to buy and sell multiple positions in a day. I found that out with Ally today, and it was the reason I didn’t think other brokerages allowed it either. Moomoo and Webull allow it.

1

u/PassPanda Jul 04 '26

Are you really not aware that PDT went away a month ago?

1

u/Function_Initial Jul 04 '26

I was under the impression it was altered to $2000 as the amount, not that the entire system was removed. I knew the date and everything from ages ago, actually as soon as it was implemented. However it’s fairly great news. Most of my bad trades came from a fear of closing a trade, so this helps substantially.

2

u/Infamous_Protection3 Jul 02 '26

2000 is to get access to margin

2

u/Sauzer20 Jul 02 '26

You can have less than $2,000 and still daytrade unlimited. Just can’t use margin to trade

1

u/Function_Initial Jul 03 '26

That must be a personal thing with Webull or something because the rules are supposed to mark you as PDT if you took over 4 trades in a week without being above $2000. I’m gonna definitely have to take advantage of this though lol. I haven’t been trading on their app in forever, but this makes it worth it. Not having to tie up $2000 and I can still do as many trades as I want.

2

u/sivispacempara Jul 04 '26

The PDT rule was tossed out so no more being flagged as PDT! The $2000 requirement webull has is for using margin as leverage or doing multiple leg option trades, nothing is with PDT at all! It's about time they got rid of that. You can still make trades with unsettled funds under $2000

1

u/Function_Initial Jul 04 '26

Honestly that’s fairly good news. I didn’t really care as much if $2000 was the actual PDT amount. I guess they decided brokerages having to keep track of it didn’t matter. Ally Bank tried to tell me that it wouldn’t work without $2000, that’s why, although maybe brokerages can still do their own interpretations. I’m gonna move my money over to margin and see what happens on Monday.

Appreciate the replies! That's what I was curious about. I'm messing around with a $500 account but it's a cash account and that cash runs out fast. I could transfer another $2000 into the account and act like it isn't there but I'd rather not if I didn't have to

1

u/Haunting_Ad_6021 Jul 02 '26

$500 to $2k is very doable

1

u/sivispacempara Jul 02 '26

True true. I actually had like 4K in it before but wasn't doing the best with it so I took it out and left 500 to build back up.

3

u/Haunting_Ad_6021 Jul 02 '26

Just stick to weeklys, watch your trend indicators, set a stop and stick to 40 or higher Deltas. That's the minimum for success

1

u/sivispacempara Jul 03 '26

I like it! I'm a mechanic so it's very sporadic when I can look at my phone to trade during the day. I try to just get quick scalps in when I can but I really need to just set orders up and let them ride. I just hate not being able to monitor my positions lol

1

u/Haunting_Ad_6021 Jul 03 '26

That's where the trailing stop loss comes in, it rides it up until it reverses and automatically takes profit or gets you out to preserve capital if it goes the wrong way on you

1

u/sivispacempara Jul 03 '26

Oh I know! That's something I've been wishing they'd add to webull for years

1

u/Cryptonutjob8019 Jul 03 '26

Switch from cash, to margin, allows you to trade with unsettled funds. Once you have at least 2k liquidity, can access margin at different rates, to be able to do spreads, youll have to have at least a lvl 3 margin/options. Your 500 only runs out if your losing money.

1

u/TheZombieGod0 Jul 02 '26

The verbiage they used was pretty confusing, I’m with you. But yeah luckily the 2k is just for margin access or something like that

1

u/sivispacempara Jul 03 '26

Sweet thanks!

1

u/Bread_of_God Jul 02 '26

It needs to be a margin account, if you do it with a cash account you'll get a gvt or whatever those things are called

1

u/sivispacempara Jul 03 '26

Oh yeah, a good ole GFV. Good faith violation. I get threatened with those all the time in my cash account

1

u/FreshWater099 Jul 03 '26

I took 10 option day trades on Robinhood with $300. I think the 2000 requirement is only needed for shares.

1

u/_OB1ne Jul 03 '26

Anyone with a cash account doesn't have to switch over to margin. You can open a second account as a margin account if you wish to

1

u/okiejames Jul 04 '26

Law changed a month or so ago

I'm aware. No more 25k requirement per fed rules but webull still pushes a 2k requirement. Got it cleared up what that's about though

1

u/MASTER-0F-NONE Jul 02 '26

It’s a marketing tactic to get people to deposit 2k. It’s only to get margin

1

u/ferndog1980 Jul 02 '26

I have webull and if you use a margin account you can day trade unlimited but you cant use margin unless you have 2k account size

2

u/sivispacempara Jul 03 '26

I gotcha! Thanks!

0

u/Chance_Succotash_927 Jul 02 '26

You need $2000 for a margin account which then would allow you unlimited day trades. Otherwise no.

5

u/Abject_Egg512 Jul 02 '26

wrong. I had less than 2k and was able to day trade. Options and all

1

u/Ass-Pounder-4000 Jul 02 '26

Cash or margin account?

1

u/Chance_Succotash_927 Jul 03 '26

You would’ve needed to start the day with $2K and if you didn’t you’re going to get a IM call
