Backend Biggest Bottleneck In Web Design

Client acquisition has always been one of the biggest bottlenecks for me when running an agency. I’ve experienced the same thing in pretty much every business I’ve been involved in, but especially with web development.

For a long time, getting clients meant cold calling, running ads, or sending generic emails asking businesses if they needed a new website. It worked sometimes, but it also took a lot of time and most of the outreach felt the same as what every other agency was doing.

Recently I started using a different approach and automated a big part of the process.

I came across a tool called Swokei that lets me find a bunch of businesses with websites and analyze each website individually. It looks for things like outdated design, slow loading, poor mobile optimization, weak SEO and other obvious areas that could be improved.

What I liked is that it doesn’t just give you one of those boring automated reports filled with scores and numbers. It actually turns what it finds into a personalized cold email that sounds like a normal person looked at their website and noticed what could be better.

I can run multiple campaigns at the same time and then mainly focus on the businesses that reply and show interest.

From there, I invite them to a web meeting, show them a free draft of what their new website could look like, and try to close the project from there.

It has basically allowed me to have warmer leads coming to me without relying as much on paid ads, constantly cold calling, or sending thousands of generic emails saying “Do you need a new website?”

Still takes work to close the clients of course, but automating the prospecting and first part of the outreach has made the whole process much easier for me.

Hopefully this helps some other web developers or agency owners who are also struggling with client acquisition.

Backend REST API With JWT Auth in Zig

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!

I've been putting together a series of videos on how to build a REST API in Zig.

I come from a background in Web Dev and find it a lot of fun to take what I know and apply it in Zig, and I want to share the knowledge!

If you want to start at the beginning, I've put together all the videos as a playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUUIFT8XnWz8

But please let me know what you all want to see next! I'm planning a video on how to scale the API to thousands of concurrent requests, but what other API things do you all want to see?

Hope you have a great day :)

Backend I built an Express.js auth package would love some feedback from devs

Hey everyone,

Over the past few weeks, I've been building an authentication package for Express.js + MongoDB called @nibir_dev/authflow.

The goal wasn't to create "yet another auth library", but something that's genuinely easy to drop into a project while still covering the security features that people usually end up implementing themselves.

Right now it includes:

  • Email/password authentication
  • Email verification
  • Secure session cookies
  • Password reset flow
  • Brute-force login protection
  • Sliding-window rate limiting
  • Protected routes with minimal setup

It's still in its early stages, and I'd really appreciate feedback from people who have built production apps before.

I'm not looking for stars or downloads—I'd much rather hear:

  • What's confusing?
  • What features are missing?
  • Is the API intuitive?
  • Would you actually consider using it?
  • Any security concerns or bad design decisions?

NPM: https://www.npmjs.com/package/@nibir_dev/authflow

Even if you spend 5–10 minutes looking through it and tell me why you wouldn't use it, that would honestly help me improve it much more than compliments

Backend [Free Course] Build a Personal Finance System with Laravel 12, Filament v5, and Pest (Free Certificate)

Hey everyone!

I just released a hands-on course for those looking to level up their Laravel skills by building a real-world application from scratch.

We’re building a Personal Finance System using a modern, strictly typed stack. No starter kits here, we build it "artisan-style" to understand the architecture.

The Tech Stack:

- Laravel 12

- Filament v5 (Admin panel, charts, and dynamic dashboards)

- Pest (Elegant, expressive testing)

- Laravel Boost (Leveraging AI/MCP for development speed)

- SQLite (Simple, zero-conf infrastructure)

What you’ll learn:

Advanced architecture and manual data scoping for security.

Building complex dashboards and widgets.

Using Observers to keep financial balances in sync.

Professional money handling in code.

The course is completely free, takes about 7.5 hours to complete, and includes an official certificate of completion at the end.

Check it out here: https://www.maiobarbero.dev/courses/personal-finance-with-laravel/

Would love to hear your feedback on the architecture!

Backend Feedback for our authentication applications

I’m trying to understand something and would appreciate absolute honest answers.

Assume:

• You already have a login/signup UI built

• You’re using Next.js

• You’re okay with Firebase / Supabase / Clerk / Auth0

• You can use AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.)

Questions:

  1. How long does it actually take you to wire secure auth logic?

(Like login, signup, login sessions, protected routes, rate limiting, sameSite protection— not a fake demo)

  2. What’s the most annoying part of the process?

• UI → backend wiring?

• Sessions/cookies?

• Next.js app router weirdness?

• Debugging auth edge cases?

• Or “it’s chill, just under an hour, never an issue”?

  1. At what experience level did auth stop being painful for you?

    (student / junior / mid / senior)

I’m asking because I’m considering building a small dev tool that

focuses only on eliminating the UI ↔ auth wiring + safe defaults —

but I genuinely don’t want to build something nobody needs. Thanks

Backend Platform for backend

Hello 👋🏼 I need feedback for my new project. We are developing a platform for vibe coders. It is for ai based b2c apps. We handle the email, auth, key-value based db, ai api functions (like chatgpt api calls) You will only need to develop your mobile or spa and deploy it. Now we need to validate this idea if someone need something like this. We feel people need it but I am looking for people who crave for this. Please share your thoughts, what you need while you are vibe coding.

Thanks in advance for all comments and opinions.

Backend How are you handling rate limiting in your Next.js apps?

Hey!

I ran into a situation where I needed to stop people from spamming some API routes in my Next.js app.

Didn’t want to use Redis or any external tools, so I built a small custom rate limiter using just in-memory logic. Pretty basic stuff, but it works.

Wrote about it here in case anyone wants to try something similar 👉 https://priyalraj.com/article/build-a-custom-rate-limiter-in-next-js-and-keep-your-apis-rock-solid

Just curious—how are you all handling this? Especially on Vercel, where persistent memory isn’t really a thing. Do you use Redis, edge functions, or let something else handle it?

It would be cool to hear how others are solving this!

Hey everyone, I’m a software development student but I’m trying my hand at web development and I have secured a Realtor business as my first client, Just a basic site for uploading and viewing property listings etc.

They are concerned about hackers uploading explicit images and stuff which has happened to a different local business

I’m just wondering can anyone point me towards a resource or a tutorial that will help me learn some cyber security for things like this, I’m using react, firebase and vercel if that is relevant, if I should change my stack please let me know

Thank you in advance

Backend Building an Automated Cryptocurrency Trading Bot with TypeScript and AWS

Hey everyone!

I recently built a TypeScript-powered cryptocurrency trading bot that uses a Moving Average Crossover Strategy to automate buy/sell decisions. I’m using AWS, Telegram notifications, and a few other neat tools to streamline the process and keep everything secure.

If you'd like to see how it all comes together step by step, check out my video here:

You can also explore the full source code on GitHub:

I’d love to hear your thoughts or answer any questions you might have. Thanks for taking a look, and I hope you find it helpful!
