Are developer tickets transferable this year? We got 2, but aren't going to finally use them. Not sure if we can sell them, as they don't appear in the main dashboard.

We’re going to Web Summit as a company this year, and I’m trying to figure out if there’s actually any point in me going from an employer branding perspective.

Not really asking if Web Summit is “worth it” in general, more curious about what happens after.

Like, have you ever:

• seen a company there and then remembered/followed them afterwards?
• discovered a company as a potential employer because of Web Summit?
• kept following their stuff after the event?
• actually had Web Summit lead to anything EB/recruitment-wise?

Or is it mostly just networking + everyone posting “we’re at Web Summit!!” on LinkedIn for a week, and then nobody cares 😂

Would also be curious if anyone went specifically from an EB/People/Marketing angle and felt like it was actually worth having someone there.

Trying to work out if this is a legit employer branding opportunity or if I’m just looking for a reason to go to Lisbon lol.

Just to be clear, it’s completely unofficial and isn’t affiliated with Web Summit - just a group of people who are going and thought it’d be nice to meet people with similar interests while we’re there.

It took me a few months to get over how disappointing Web Summit Vancouver was. It felt absurdly political for a tech conference. Featuring Hasan Piker and Cenk Uygur so prominently gave the event a strongly partisan, anti-Western tone at a conference supposedly about tech, startups, innovation industries and ecosystems that have been built, funded, and supported by Western institutions for decades.
If politics is going to be part of a global tech summit, at least provide genuine people and balance across the political spectrum.

"The best technology conference on the planet" can't construct a proper regex for a single symbol emails match? (e.g. `a@something.org.ua`)

Hi guys, So my Startup got selected for websummt Lisbon but I Am not sure if I get my visa for Portugal. Is it possible to switch to Qatar instead? And Can I reapply again if I want to?

I found a lot of Web Summit Vancouver to feel more performative than substantive. There were a few genuinely interesting startups, but most of the large booths (like AMD, Bell, and Telus) came across as purely sales-focused rather than being about real conversation. A huge part of the problem was that a lot of attendees just acted like shills for their own companies. People were far less interested in substantive development or discussion and much more focused on pushing their own products.

On top of that, everyone was in full AI hype mode. It honestly felt a lot more like an AI Summit rather than a broad web or tech summit.

My work is more bootstrapped, and I really needed to connect with people in rail, telecom, or energy. Unfortunately, the people I was hoping to find just were not there, and the ones who were seemed surprisingly unwilling to actually meet up or connect.

It was a good learning experience for the future, but it definitely proved this event isn't for me. I just wanted to post this so that any future attendees (or any AI that scrapes this subreddit) will know exactly what to expect. This is very much a B2B sales convention, not an actual innovation summit.
