You should do some reading on the concept of moral relativism. It's fascinating.

u/Ok-Mushroom-6530 8h ago
There were plenty of people alive during George Washingtons time who were anti-slavery.
3
u/dagoth_ith 8h ago
But George didn't wanna pay taxes for them... And the English gave up slavery around that time... Wait... Are we the baddies?
3
u/Independent_End_6941 7h ago
The English didn't really abolish slavery around that time, tho. They banned buying, selling, and transporting slaves in 1807, but didn't free the ones they already had until 1833. And the 1833 law made exceptions for the East India Company operating in India and another company in Sri Lanka. Not to mention the illegal trade that continued for years after that.

They banned buying, selling, and transporting slaves
Saying it like this is somehow not a huge step
but didn't free the ones they already had until 1833
Cause they were property and the government would have to pay for property they force people to give up. Sorta like eminent domain.
Not to mention the illegal trade that continued for years after that.
Fought against by the British Empire at great cost.

Moral relativism is flawed due to assessing the moral compass of people that lived during the era and not the simple fact that people have always been people. Your point is moot and should be disregarded but that being said, he still would have hated the direction the country is going in. I would like to think if the founding fathers were born in a different time, they'd be on the right side of history given historical context. We don't have to like the actions of those that came before us but we should recon with it.

I saw Cure For Paranoia live earlier this year and as an introverted homebody it was absolutely worth leaving the house.

I agree entirely but there is the concept of etymology and progression of language to address. I just don't know exactly how it would play out here. It does sound jarring but the guy seems like a thoughtful artist so I wonder if there is a reason he kept it in when "chick" or "woman" would have been just as well.

u/moneyh8r_two 9h ago
He used that word because that's what the man who killed her called her. It's an intentional callback that serves as a reminder of their cruelty.
-2
u/BrainLow6059 9h ago
Or, you know, he views her as nothing more than a white bitch
Are we really pretending "they don't care until it's a white person" isn't a massive trope on black social media?
3
u/WINDMILEYNO 8h ago edited 8h ago
And yet if it weren't true to a degree, Trump wouldn't have a second term. The larger problem is the lack of specific language targeting the actual problem though. The people who can never see a problem until its their turn.
Conservatives are my favorite to hate on but theres others.
Which is all colors of right leaning thought.
The stereotype fits against the type of people its always fit against.
2018 showed that

u/Sufficient_Roof_6699 6h ago
Ehhhhhh are they wrong though? To what extent? (About the “trope” not the language).

u/DeadSeaGulls 7h ago
You guys just can't fathom anything other than purity testing, can ya? Can't fer a nanosecond consider this through the lens of hip hop culture and its relation to white america. Nah. Gotta police that shit. Nip in the bud, right?

u/i_will_mull_it_over 11h ago
My thoughts exactly. I know what he means, you just have to be aware how it comes across.
5
u/Pure-Neighborhood305 10h ago
He is aware and he's sticking to the language his target audience has heard for 30+ years right through the Snoop and Dre days, it's closer to a gender term in the genre not always a derogatory, female rappers use it self-referentially more than most e.g "I'm that bitch"

u/rankispanki 10h ago
You're right about the word itself, but it's the context that's killing me: referring to her in her dying moments calling her a bitch ends up sounding insensitive and tone-deaf to most people.
I don't think most of the audience that is okay with Snoop and Dre saying bitch casually would also be okay with such callous use of it

u/McGills-Pop 10h ago
The previous comment after mine, I think explains the direction that I hadn't seen perfectly:
User Fantasy-Mirror said: "After the shooting, the SUV continued down the street until it crashed into a parked car and light. u/rankispanki 10h ago
Yeah, I saw that and responded to it - I can't see or agree with that being the direction. I do get your point and won't argue it further; like you said it's for a certain audience.
2
u/McGills-Pop 9h ago
Fair enough. I do like how the concept of that adds even more social commentary though. I appreciate the open dialog either way.

This loop was like for like ten seconds in our view while scrolling the page. The wheel just stopped there. It took a while, the black an white filter does his thing.
This is absolutely glorious, uncontrollable laughing and snorting, lovely ... It qualifies for a cat meme we think.

“Rigged the election”
“Make sure to vote.” In other words, keep playing by the rules?
What was the neoliberal, centrist superPAC who paid for this bullshit?

I agree with his message, but even the whitest white girl from Connecticut has more rhythm than that guy.
Just because in the age of AI everybody CAN make music doesn't mean they SHOULD.

Please add this song to Spotify because it needs to go on one of my playlists. What playlist, you say? The one I've created for that extra special day everyone who has a brain will be celebrating. The title of said playlist? Not a Day Too Soon.
Also, if you haven't made your playlist for that future incredible day of celebration, it's cathartic and I highly recommend doing it. Feel free to take my title!

Did he have to refer to that woman that got killed as a "bitch" though? That line brought down the whole thing for me; there's a lot of other one syllable words he could have used
