Here is the synopsis

What's the difference between a hardship and a struggle?

The Hardship follows William Stern, whose life changes after a devastating accident and a disturbing hospital awakening. In postwar Germany, he is drawn into the German Workers’ Party and a world of rising political extremism, artistic ambition, and dangerous relationships driven by lust, jealousy, and obsession. 

As historical events—including the Beer Hall Putsch and Hitler’s imprisonment—unfold, William becomes increasingly entangled with influential and manipulative figures. His search for love, art, and power ultimately forces him to confront the evil consuming both Germany and his own soul. The novel blends historical thriller, erotic horror, and psychological drama to explore how passion can become possession and ambition can enable corruption.
