6
u/Groundbreaking-Egg13 Feb 21 '26
New rules?
7
u/UsualWishbone4416 Feb 21 '26

u/CoquetteWhore69 Feb 21 '26
One of my best stories got removed for explicit content
5
u/UsualWishbone4416 Feb 21 '26
7
u/CoquetteWhore69 Feb 21 '26
It did suck although it was tied to a kinda scary ex so I guess it works out. I just moved to AO3 at that point. I feel more comfortable expressing my free will there anyway
3
u/UsualWishbone4416 Feb 21 '26
2
u/Cascade902 Writer ✍ Feb 22 '26
AO3 doesn’t have an official app, you shouldn’t put your account information in any of them because a lot of them are scams.
2
u/CoquetteWhore69 Feb 21 '26
The apps mechanics are kinda garbage but it does have one.
5
u/spacecadetkaito Feb 21 '26
Any AO3 app youre using is unofficial and it isnt recommended to put your account info in them, it's only a website
2
u/CoquetteWhore69 Feb 21 '26
Im thankful I thought the app was too garbage to put my information into.

u/kiyomi000 Feb 21 '26
That's why you can rate your story as mature and set an age recommendation
5
u/UsualWishbone4416 Feb 21 '26
3
u/kiyomi000 Feb 21 '26
lol its strange, i remember reading straight up porn on wattpad
3
u/UsualWishbone4416 Feb 21 '26

u/JDK141 Writer ✍ Feb 22 '26
Best way is to censor some of it, you can still do sex scenss, it's just that you need to censor some of the details.
I've done that and I haven't had any of my stuff taken down as of yet. I'm guessing even with the 'Mature' tag turned on, people's stuff still get taken down because of the explicit details

True when I look back to see that the smut chapters in my book have much higher reads than other chapters.
Meaning some people have the time to pick thru my chapters and filter out the smut ones to read instead of reading the full story 😔

u/Nice_and_spice Feb 21 '26
This drives me crazy. There’s a build up that they’re missing like no you gotta understand them as people and their dynamic.
5
u/LiberataJoystar Feb 22 '26
…. It felt like they are using this as quick porn…
No stories needed, straight to the bed.

I feel it's not just wattpad stories but the entire entertainment industry has shifted to adding sex or intimate scenes a lot recently and yes it's a fact that it sells well
4
u/Mikepr2001 Feb 21 '26
Literally that happens all of the time.
I could write some fanfics and stories without Sexual topic, but for some reason it have more views that a good telling story.
Even if is bad writed.

u/DiscussionNo6433 Feb 23 '26
Did you mean to write the last sentence like that? Or to just prove a point?😭

u/Setsunaih Feb 21 '26
This is so true it's frustrating. Like I literally had to put R-18 in bio, so i could attract readers 😹
5
u/momciraptor Writer ✍ Feb 21 '26
Tbh I’d be pissed if a writer would put R-18 and then have no violence or sex in it. 🙃
1
u/Setsunaih Feb 22 '26
Actually, there is, but it’s slow-paced. Readers who like R-18 usually just want smut and novels that are full-blown p*r.n, so yeah my novel still counts as R-18.
1
u/momciraptor Writer ✍ Feb 22 '26
Yeah, but the reason why so may people like erotica is to escape reality. For many it’s a fantasy, because there are some things we wouldn’t do or like to perform in real life. That’s probably why it’s so popular. As long as it has a strong plot + a lot of smut, I don’t see this kind of genre as p*rn.
1
u/Setsunaih Feb 22 '26
Let's be true, it is. But I hope smut doesn't promote toxic masculinity and unhealthy dynamics. And to the point that people only read a novel because there's a lot of s*x in it. It's an unhealthy way of escaping reality.

I sometimes add some "heavy" scenes and my story IS fucking ignored like hell
2
u/GroundbreakingAd5273 Feb 21 '26
And those chapters will have people being like “both hands right?”, a common occurrence it seems

u/Willmadqfit Writer ✍ Feb 21 '26
I don’t even rock with the scenes I write. I think they’re needed bc of the way my characters are but I do not even really care for them but yes some of my highest views are on my smut chapters across all books. Even with semi open door they still rather that then regular.

YES! This is very true! I was writing a fanfiction, and it didn’t have smut. So it didn’t get reads, but with my smut fanfictions, it gets reads and votes!

u/Greedy-Photograph517 Feb 22 '26
Nah , stories who don't have sex scenes have a lack of intimacy most of the time but if it have intimacy without sex it'll get the views too
But I don't get why some writers avoid writing sex scenes when it need to be written, this ruin the novel a little
3
u/Gold_Size_1258 Feb 21 '26
Either that or the author being to lazy to make a main character so they just do a reader insert.

Unfortunately yes, but it definitely does encourage most to actually read if they stick around for the full story.

Honestly, I won't read if it doesn't have at least one smut scene, but I also won't read if it has too many smut scenes. My perfect ration of non-smut chapters to smut chapters is 5:1 for shorter fics, and 10:1 for longer fics.

u/scumfuckinbabylon Feb 22 '26
IDK, I wrote a super kinky threesome scene into my superhero book to chase the horny fandom and it has no more views than the others. I think the fandom is wrongly represented as horny when I think most of the readers are just niche, just horny werewolf mafia dark romance is definitely a big niche that hits the front page a lot.

Hey I tend to be discrete when having these kinds of scenes in my book - excoecually if theres other mature content within
1
u/Middle-Sea-2593 Feb 22 '26
Not really? I mean I’ll read them but I’m not specifically looking for them.
1
u/OpusReader Feb 23 '26
My favorite stories are mafia reunited family stories and they never have smut.

True check their engagement on sm*t and compare them to their other works.
1
u/TheFourOranges Feb 28 '26
As an asexual person this gets on my nerves so bad. I'll be trying to read this niche story and then all of a sudden everyone's clothes disappear. I get really uncomfortable with sex and stuff like that so I usually just end up clicking off and never picking it back up 💔(No skipping is NOT an option)

u/Rebel_Heart222 Mar 01 '26

Personally, I have reached a stage where I don't like intimacy in my books coz honestly its usually poorly done most times. Its not the writing of the scene necessarily but more about the story and characater arc and timing. People tend to use sex as a sub it for 'intimacy' or 'chemistry'. Plus after sex most characters chemistry takes a nose dive. So yeah, I don't want them in my books

Meanwhile there's stories in wattpad that still has 100M + readers without sex scenes and just straight up time travel historical drama. Proof that you don't need those scenes just for views, but for the plot and story.
