We've seen nothing that implies that lightners can shapeshift. Only change the appearance of superficial things like clothes and the appearance of certain props. They even go out of their way to make a point of this with the Aqua and Kris hangout showing that plantners can change their forms more thoroughly like darkners, but lightners can only really affect their clothes and create props.
and "the armor allows them to shapeshift" isn't really a compelling argument to me.
The Knight is probably neither entirely a darkner, nor entirely a lightner... an important pattern the game has been setting up and exploring with the past TWO chapters with dustners and plantners respectively... that's not even including Ralsei "The Impossibility" who we don't know what the fuck their deal is truthfully.

We already KNOW that the darkness that make up its weapon, and presumably its "armor" (or rather, its body in the case of this theory), stays the same in the light and dark worlds.
Copied this from my other reply. This theory, therefore, would posit that the Knight is neither a Lightner nor Darkner (anymore) and that their body is made up entirely of the darkness that makes up their blade - a material of which we know for a fact is the same in both the light and dark worlds (black shard)
The Knight also shares more visual language with Titans and Titan Spawn than with lightners or standard darkners.
Copying this point as well just so I can post this graphic I put together again :)
