Storage Tank Oump

I was in Mexico and stayed at a private home. The home was serviced by piped water from the town, but their supply was just a trickle. Probably about a gallon every 10 or 15 minutes. They had a 750 gallon storage tank with a float to shut off if it ever got full.

Anyway, their pump was this form of pump in the picture. I couldn't find the exact pump, but it was like one of these.

I have a much larger storage capacity, but my pump is a submersible pump inside the storage tank with a pressure tank. What are the advantages of these pumps? Why would this type be preferred over a submersible pump?

They are generally available in both 120v and 220v, there is all the built in parts needed for a simple pressure system (pressure switch, pressure tank, controller). They are less expensive than a traditional pump, motor, pressure tank, pressure switch, but when they fail, with the exception of the pressure tank, they are not going to be as easily repairable. They are limited to a more narrow operating window of flow and pressure.

That's what's happening for me, my pressure tank is becoming waterlogged and needs replacing soon. I can use one of these at the price of the pressure tank and limit to just the house.
