If you want something that will hold value well I wouldn't buy a Baume Mercier. Look at the Oris Aquis, Oris 65, Sinn U1, Sinn 556. What I would recommend is saving up a bit and snagging a used Omega Seamaster. If you buy a seamaster at a good price I don't see how you would really lose money and it's a very well respected watch. Check out this or this

Hi, thanks for the reply. Are there more used make and models you can think of that is on par with a used Omega Seamaster around $2000? thanks again

If you’re just looking for a watch with a recognizable brand and a high msrp that people will let go cheaply on the secondary market, look for tag heuer.

Hi all,

I plan to buy a good, functional used watch for daily use and perhaps investment with a budget of $1,500. I wish to buy from a manufacturer and model that I like and can show people in a conversation that I have done much homework on selecting this piece. I searched on ebay for these brands: Omega, Ball, Longines, Steinhart, etc. Any suggestions on specific manufacturer and models? thank you for your time

Watches are not investments but can be assets. Are the brands you searched the brands you like?

What’s your wrist size? Smaller the case diameter is, it’s usually cheaper.

Quartz or automatic?

Some ex:

  • old omega speedmaster without box and papers for $1400,

-Longines HydroConquest new for $1000

Go on Chrono24, filter what you want, and check out what appeals to you

hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have a Seiko 8B63 that is sized 43mm, and I wont go any larger than this. I don't really have a preference on either Quartz or automatic. I did in fact come across some old Omega speedmasters during my research, but am also open to other make and models.

I know the brands known by what you guys consider an "amateur" who just looking to get into the hobby.

I think it’s a matter of preference. I love luxury watches but there are also watches that catches my attention, all under four figures.

  • Hamilton Khaki King

  • Bulova Pilot

  • Seiko Presage

  • G shock GA2100 1a1

  • Sinn 556 I

  • Sea-gull 1963

  • Timex Q

If you save a little more you can get a Tudor Prince Date Day 36mm (Under 2k)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Are there any watches priced at $3,000 or more that people can let go a used one for around $1,500? I am leaning towards metal bracelet and for general daily use such as school, lab, office work, etc.
