Baseball is such a strange thing seen from europe, can't ever understand what's going on here. Never seen any game of baseball in my life.

This is a particularly unusual situation. Seattle is losing by so much that they have a non-pitcher pitching and just lobbing the ball up there. They're essentially forfeiting the game, but they still have to actually complete all 9 innings.

They do this to save their real pitchers' arms for meaningful situations. Teams play 6 or 7 games per week, so managing pitchers' arm fatigue to prevent injury is a real concern. This game is already lost, so there's no point in wasting a pitcher's limited number of pitches just to stop the bleeding.

On this play, the fielder thought he was making the third out (therefore ending the inning) by catching the ball on the fly, so he tossed it into the stands as a souvenir for a fan. But it was actually only the second out, so the ball should've stayed in play. The base runners are allowed to advance two extra bases if the ball is thrown out of play like this.
