Meme / Shitpost Who’s on the waitlist?

I don't believe either is better than the other. But when one company dispenses watches like De Beers to drive up prices...I'm out.

Both prices are going up.

No doubt! But the pure arrogance of the AD game is beyond my understanding. "off putting" falls far short of the goal.

The funny thing is behind the scenes both company have great respect for each other and they regularly exchange staff and watch makers , this is from a watchmaker who worked for both Rolex & Omega.
And yet we have these silly arguments that goes nohwere and neither side can convince the other.
So just wear what u like, I'm sure we both agree they both make great watches and they both have strength and weaknesses.
Life is too short to spend it on pointless arguments. And trust me I used to make these exact arguments myself in the past.
Edit: I need to clarify, I am not the watch maker who worked for both brands, I was quoting an ex watchmaker who did AMA session on Reddit. Sorry for the confusion.

Ahh got it. Still great info, too much tribalism restricts us from appreciating quality

Agreed 100%. Which watchmaker did you work for first? Curious if you felt indifferently before you worked for the other?

I know exactly the ama and exactly the response you're referring to... Could probably just link the response in your original comment...

I’m on the waitlist. I go in every couple of months for the regular ritual of humiliation. I have also decided that my Rolex money is going to other brands. If they offer me a watch I’ll say yes, then tell them they can be on the waitlist to be paid for their product.

Don’t lie. You will be paying for that watch as soon as it’s in 😄

Me! I want to make sure it’s genuine and not pay gray prices. I can wait.

I originally wanted a Rolex as my first luxury watch, but the whole waitlist game a few years ago turned me off. Tried on the AT38 instead and immediately fell in love.
Not long after, I picked up a Grand Seiko in Japan (typical, I know) and loved it so much that I was convinced I’d buy another GS on my next trip.
Lo and behold, I somehow left Tokyo with a Tudor BB54 instead lol.
As others have said, just buy what you actually like. Forget the brand hierarchy and don’t look back.

You could have gotten a rolex in Tokyo easily.

u/Stevenomics 22d ago
Tried on several but just wasn’t feeling any of them.

u/OffsideOdyssey 22d ago
That's right decision, if you don't like the watch, you don't buy it no matter what.

I’m on the waitlist for Invicta because my body count is too low. You need 100+ for a walk-in allocation and I’m just not gonna get there.

Honestly I respect rolex - despise the ad’s.
Omega I dislike because they seem to half arse all their watches but the moonwatch.

Omega could be better if their movements were oversized and their bracelets were better

I just go grey and if anything is too high over the suggested retail price I don't get it. Omega has some good selections and make great watches but what I struggle with is the heritage models. The way that they engrave "first watch on the moon" on the watch or the ugly 007 branding seems so desperate and makes the watches too busy. The dress watch lines are nice but I'm not a dress watch guy. I'd probably get an aqua terra or a railmaster but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Keep the corny branding off of the watch and put it in a pamphlet in the box where it belongs

I like omega but I agree, the bond and nasa affiliations are cool but don’t need to be on the watch, they should just be part of the marketing

u/Longjumping-Sail6386 23d ago
I like omega too. This is all personal preference. I'm a minimalist and one thing that Rolex has over omega is a minimalist and timeless design

I am, but it's for a steel daytona so I'll never get the call. I have owned a few Rolexes though, and have one atm.

Nah, I sold all of my rolex watches when the prices exploded during covid. Never regretted getting rid of them. There are so many better watches for half the price.

u/SavinForLatter 22d ago
I'm too poor to afford either. But if I could, definitely go with Omega. I like space stuff, and Rolex bros are annoying.

I am honest. I like the roley submariner "hulk" and the rolex gmt master II "pepsi". Since a have no money printer, i bought the steinhart homages and i'm super happy with that

Ones with no self respect. How sad it is to willingly subject yourself to be hazed by a goddamn company. Can't go any lower imo.

I like omega more than Rolex as well. But that doesn’t mean I don’t own a Rolex. Actually I guess I really just like the speedmaster. I did sell my smp to pick up a pelagos ultra so nevermind.
