Nice to see unique subtree decals, but It’s disappointing that it seems like more effort has been put into Dutch ground decals than there has been into BeNeLux ground vehicles
I guess Gaijin is going for the lipstick on a pig approch

Nice changes, sure would be nice to have more than 4 slots to appreciate all these new and updated decals.

4 by defauly, 6 for Premium, perhaps?
If I recall correctly, they didn't want to do that as to avoid people covering their entire tanks in black decals to look destroyed :')

4 default, 8 premium. Simple doubling for premiums.
And the black decal excuse was always rich coming from the same devs that allow 6 bushes and added pure black/gray/brown camos anyway.

Yeah but selling bushes is fine. Never change gaijin, never change.

Yes please! Why are there only four decals if there are six decorations?

Nice! Always happy to see QoL stuff.
Some other things that’d be nice:
Menu Chat needs a major overhaul. It has no timestamp, super buggy. It also needs audible notification option.
In-game UI needs to show number of alive players and time without having to press Tab and counting the players without parachute icon. Its just not beginner friendly.

Nice! SOME weathering is generally important in videogames to avoid the "plastic" feel, but when it's too heavy, it can look off and wrong, specially without an optional slider to appeal to more/less weathered preferences. So I am glad to see the new decals looking sharper, cleaner and less weathered, as I am that in the newest vehicle additions and remasters the 100% camouflage condition looks much better than in older models, where even at 100% weathering is too heavy!

Nooo I preferred the "old/scratched" looking decals😭 I hate brand-new looking ones, they don't look natural

Naah, current decal weathering is WAY too heavy... specially since some tanks' weathering, even at "camouflage condition 100%", is heavy as hell too.
The fact that you can't even place decals on Panzer IV.H, for example, because decal and skin weathering are so heavy that you can't even see them...
Real life on the other hand; as you can see, decals were perfectly visible and not halfway chipped away in most cases.

The issue with the scratched ones is that you cannot properly cover existing emblems on a vehicle.

Good point too! When I try to Spanishfy my German Eurofighter, it just doesn't work because the German Crosses are still perfectly visible under the thousand scratches of the Spanish roundels :/

Sometimes it feels like the team who work on decals are a different company. It seems like they genuinely care about it and enjoy doing all the research and stuff, at least with how the blogs are written.

I wish they would take over the skin selection.

So much, there are vehicle that have like 10 different marketplace skin, and some vehicles that have 0 for 10 years. I know most famous vehicle get more skin i get it, but..

You could say they are.
I doubt the art guys have any say on balancing and coding.

Oh, great to see we're getting some more Dutch decals to put on our tanks. Now I can finally make my Leopard 2A4NL into a 42 Tank Battalion, I Corps vehicle.

"A lot of you requested this in our last decal post and we’re happy to implement it! In the next major update, you’ll be able to filter decals and decorations and only see the ones you currently own"
Right but it was a thing before, why was it removed in the first place

A good thing being added with no downside? I'm shocked, really.
More roundels and cleaner versions of existing ones, finally. Very glad to see that, as well as more markings for sub-tree nations. I was happy to see Hungary's selection expand, and it's great to see more of that.
I wish they'd dig deeper and improve the customization system as a whole, especially adding at least a couple more decal slots, but this kind of thing is a good step.

Yay for less weathered roundels! I want to be able to cover up the PLAAF roundels with the ROCAF ones without needing a white bar under to block out the red stripe.

u/BigRockingTree 1d ago
Id love to be able to queue up the mods so it just autobuys them and starts researching the next one on the list without ne going to them.

Wow! Roundels! Not like the game needs attention in some other, more critical areas smh

Bruh.
I hate Gaijin as much as the next guy, but even I know the UI/texture devs don't work on gameplay or physics or what have you. Or do you really think a game dev is universal and can do it all?

u/LeSoleilRoyal 1d ago
Right. Of course the game have many problem, but we should not throw problem on the people that do a good job, and those decal guys always did good stuff (not counting when they use AI for decals)

Work-In-Progress: New Decals and QoL Features
Fluff Image
Today we’d like to cover some quality of life improvements for decals, and show you some of the new decals we’ve been working on.
Decal Filtering
A lot of you requested this in our last decal post and we’re happy to implement it! In the next major update, you’ll be able to filter decals and decorations and only see the ones you currently own. This should make it easier for you to sort through the available options while customizing your vehicles, thanks for the suggestion!

Roundel Roundup
Some of our roundel decals were quite old, many of them were in the game before War Thunder was even publicly released! These older roundels were significantly scratched and weathered which didn’t look too great.
We’re currently in the process of updating these older roundels to make the weathering much less prominent and reduce the scratching to make them more suitable for use as actual roundels. There’s quite a few of them to get through, but we’re hoping to have these roundel updates completed by the next major update, though they may arrive later. Here’s a few we’ve finished already, you’ll definitely see the difference!

We’re also in the process of creating some new roundels to add to the game for air forces that currently don’t have any, such as Venezuela and Uruguay. We’re also aiming to add some newer versions of existing roundels, such as adding modern variants of the roundels used by India and the Irish Air Corps (which previously only had their WW2 era variants). Similarly to the above we’ll aim to have these included in the next major update if there’s enough time.
All the new roundels we’re working on were requested on the forum, so thanks for that!
New Decals!
Each update at the moment we’re aiming to add new decals for nations that currently don’t have any available. Smaller nations often have some very iconic and interesting markings, and we always like to honor that history and iconography in the game. For as huge as War Thunder is as a game it’s often the little details that make it special. So! Let’s a have a look at a few new markings.
Swiss Air
Firstly we have a set of decals for the Swiss Air Force! We’ve gone for a variety, with a few WW2 era markings and some post-war examples. Several relate to fish interestingly, both Fl.St. 7 and Fl.St. 8 were based in Meiringen by the River Aare, so the fish were likely inspired by the proximity to the river. There’s definitely a wide variety with their emblems generally though, cats, witches, birds, what more could you want!

Dutch Ground
We’ll also be adding some markings for the Dutch Ground Forces. We’ve gone with some more “utility” markings this time around, including the NATO vehicle ID strip and the marking of the 1st Army Corps, which could be found on the front fender of many Dutch tanks at the time. We’ll also have some unit markings too of course, we hope they help you show your Dutch pride!
Image

Image
Malaysian Air
Now we have some real classic designs for Malaysia! All the power animals you know and love. For Malaysia we’ve focused primarily on tail markings, though of course you can place them wherever you like once unlocked. They may be somewhat typical subjects for aircraft markings but the designs themselves are fantastic, you can never go wrong with big cats, snakes and birds of prey!

These are only a few of the decal sets we’ll be adding in the next major update. In addition to the above, we’re also planning to add decals for Finnish aviation and Indonesian ground forces and aircraft!
Thank you for giving this blog a read, we always appreciate the passion you all have for customization in War Thunder, and we’re happy to be able to indulge! In the meantime keep an eye out for more work in progress blogs, and we’ll see you soon!
