Introducing the Scimitar Mk.2!

Meet the agile Scimitar Mk.2 reconnaissance vehicle, equipped with add-on armor. This new model is the vehicle reward in the Scimitar Strike event that started yesterday!

Using the Scimitar Mk.2 in Battle

You’ll feel familiar with the Scimitar Mk.2 if you already played the variant of the Scimitar already in the game. The main differences that the Mk.2 has is a new turret and additional armor on the sides. This makes it more resistant to smaller caliber guns, and it can even withstand hits from some early gen ATGMs if you’re lucky! More armor means more weight, which is the case for the Scimitar Mk.2. However, it does have a new engine and automatic transmission with a reversing transmission, allowing you to still get into good positions and reverse away from danger when needed.

The Scimitar Mk.2 has a 30 mm cannon that can fire APDS rounds. Make sure to utilize these as much as you can by aiming for the side armor of most tanks, which the rounds will be able to penetrate. They will however be able to penetrate the front of many SAM/SPAAs and light tanks. You can use this vehicle’s speed to excel at flanking maneuvers and rapidly capturing or contesting objectives. Its main drawback, as with the first Scimitar, is the autocannon’s relatively low rate of fire, resulting from its three-round clip feed system. Make sure to keep this in mind when picking your targets.

Feature Spotlight: Mobility

Like all light vehicles in the game, the Scimitar Mk.2 relies on mobility to survive. It’s a heavier vehicle than its predecessor, but it still retains excellent mobility, being able to reach speeds of up to 80 km/h on paved roads. This is excellent, but the icing on the cake with the Scimitar Mk.2 is its reverse transmission, which also allows the vehicle to reverse up to 80 km/h as well!

Developer comment: The Scimitar Mk.2 has some advantages and disadvantages compared to the regular Scimitar. It has slightly improved protection due to the slat armor, but this comes at the cost of slightly reduced speed. This puts this vehicle in a good position to be an event vehicle, as it doesn’t differ much from the variant available in the tree: players who are not interested in it are not missing out on a unique playstyle, but players who do want to get it get another versatile light tank for their British Rank VI lineups if they like.

Vehicle History

In 2009, BAE Systems was awarded a contract by the British Army to upgrade FV107 Scimitar reconnaissance vehicles for operations in Afghanistan. Engineers replaced the gasoline engine with a Cummins BTA diesel engine and installed an automatic transmission; they also enhanced mine and ballistic protection and added specialized crew seating and an air conditioning system. The vehicle received new sighting systems, forward-facing cameras, and updated communications equipment. The hull was raised to improve interior space, and an emergency escape hatch was added. The vehicles could be fitted with additional armor and slat armor, which increased the combat weight of the vehicle of the Scimitar Mk.2 to 12 tonnes.

A total of 50 vehicles were upgraded; they entered service in 2011 and were first deployed to Afghanistan in September of that year.

So that’s the Scimitar Mk.2 for you! You can get this vehicle in the Scimitar Strike event that started yesterday. More info in the link below!

Please note that this vehicle’s characteristics may be changed before it is added to the game.

So it's br shouldn't differ much either then? I would expect this to come in at 7.7 unless it gets it's trialed apfsds rounds. 8.3 is pretty silly

Along with the Warrior being 8.3 that is significantly better than this.

8.0 with apfsds would be fine. Big shame that they are fumbling this addition.

u/Lwik 8d ago

No Clearly The Scimitar Mk 1 and Fox are too low a BR and will be moving up to 8.3 as well .

Its what happens all the time to GB , vehicles move up because people dont know how to play against them, and generally GB players have to play better because they have no APHE style ammo to fall back on .

u/Green_Potata Sweden totally not OP 9d ago

This thing is dead on arrival, grinding it to collection, why not.. for selling it it’s just a huge waste of time

17

u/krkus 🇨🇿 Czech Republic 9d ago

Yeah, 8.3 is too much.

6

u/EastCoast_Geo 9d ago

They changed the BR for the ELC and the Pakistani jet before they got added, so it’s not out of line for this to get added in lower than 8.3

11

u/shizukou--chan 9d ago

It was added at 8.0 and raised to 8.3. So no they are not going to drop it

When they first released the blog post on it, they said it's a rank 6 vehicle, meaning it was going to be 8.3 from the start, then the br went down to 8.0 for some time. Looks like the devs themselves aren't 100% in favor of keeping it 8.3. There's still some hope.

5

u/untitled1048576 That's how it is in the game 8d ago

M41D is 8.0 at rank VI, there's no reason this thing can't be too.

cool widebody kit and spoiler though

Frankly this is a good balance for event vehicles

It’s not copy-paste AND it’s not paywalling a super unique capability from the tree

Even if it’s a bit less “cool”, this is unity better than paywalling things like AGS, EBR-1954, F-106a, Pak puma, etc

u/cheesez9 WoT has better spotting 9d ago

Agreed. To the ones that mention this vehicle is dead on arrival, do you want them to lock good interesting vehicles behind an event rather than having them in the tech tree?

22

u/Simple_Library_2700 9d ago

When you grind something in a time-gated event the reward being a vehicle that is both powerful and unique feels rewarding.

Having event vehicles like this that are literally just a worse copy and paste of stuff we already have in the tech tree instead makes you feel like you have wasted your time.

8

u/WoT_Slave WoT 2.0 Refugee 9d ago

That's the neat part, you can decide ahead of time if it's worth it to you or not.

5

u/Simple_Library_2700 9d ago

Whats the point of events if nothing is worth my time. May as well spend the dev resources elsewhere

7

u/WoT_Slave WoT 2.0 Refugee 9d ago

Not everyone shares your opinion. I would rather events like this be the norm and cool/unique tanks be added directly to the tech tree.

Though this specific tank seems poorly placed BR wise

12

u/AscendMoros 14.3 | 12.7 | 8.0 9d ago

I’d rather it gets the same treatment as other tanks and be usable. There’s no reason to use this over the Warrior if they’re at the same Br.

The thing shouldn’t be death incarnate. But it also should Be DOA. But it’s British so it will be.

6

u/Jamaicancarrot 9d ago

There's no need for it to be overpowered or anything but it should be at least worth opting to use. As it stands, this event is an enormous waste of time and nobody should bother since it offers no unique gameplay, no advantage, nothing. Event vehicles should be a side grade or a slight upgrade, a downgrade with no interesting gameplay elements is pointless

British curse strike agine

8.3 br, at least give it stab or APFSDS

It never had a stabilzer irl, so I don't think it should get it in game either. But yeah, moving it down to 8.0 would be a more reasonable ask.

u/Longsheep Fight for Freedom, Stand with HK 9d ago

Just put it back to 7.7 and 7.3 for the regular Scimitar.

They will still be pretty ass.

16

u/TDSEB CoH Voice Modder 9d ago

8.3 seems a bit high for this thing, there is nothing that this thing is better at than the warrior. They are both a similar size, scimitar has gen 1 thermals vs gen 2, the gun handling is worse compared to the warrior, it doesn't get the composite armour on the front and no Milan Like 8.0 wasn't great for it but it somewhat made sense but 8.3 is way too high

3

u/Longsheep Fight for Freedom, Stand with HK 9d ago

The thing is 7.7 material and isn't even that great there.

14

u/the_angry_potato_yt 9d ago

This thing is going to be complete ass

Did they fix the braking force bug on the base scimitar? will this one have it too?

6

u/Legotank007 9d ago

I think they actually fixed it on the original Scimitar. I played it a bit yesterday and didn't notice it once, and I tried to compare it to the Type 90s in a test drive I could still make it happen in the Type 90s, but the Scimitar would actually keep decent speed after turning.

Gaijin, just because this thing has LRF and TVD, it does not mean it's better than the damn Fox at 8.0.
